need some advice on wiring my tomtom rider 2 to my divvy 900 as the instruction don't seem to mention it,can I wire it straight to the battery terminals or should it be a switched connection ie only live with ignition on ?,my concern is when the tom tom is off the bike does the mount have a transformer that would still be live which might lead to premature failure,I know I could unplug the mount but then the lead is still live,is there any advantage in a permanent live feed as opposed to a switched feed in regard to losing information on the tom tom when on tour ?.any advise greatfully received. mick

Hi m&r, most on here usually wire any power feeds to aux systems through a feed from the lighting circuit, that way the power is only on when your riding (providing you ride with your lights on of course ). Has the advantage of not being live when you leave the bike too. Info is usually stored on the tomtom ok, even when switched off. They are usually set to auto pick up last viewed info as a rule. hth Trev

A convenient power supply is the feed to the rear brake light switch beside the pedal.

A convenient power supply is the feed to the rear brake light switch beside the pedal. As any self respecting EX-D900 owner should know the back brake pedal is actually a negative feed , but you can connect at the back light to the yellow wire (if I remember rightly) and this will give you a permanent feed regardless of whether your lights are on or off as this is the permanent live to the back brake light. Also it will go off with the ignition. Thats how I wired my Garmin when I had the D900. HTH Matt

Hi, I am hopting to put my tom on the d9 this weekend. I was going to do what mick suggested, straight to the aux battery cable via a cigerette lighter plug cable, I have attached to the aux cable. Then just un-plug when tom-tom not in use. You're right, will still have a live cable though. Does this matter if it is tucked away ? If I go down the route off the brake pedal switch, err, where exactly is that, I cannot see a switch
thanks dxtans

DX You can't wire from the brake switch as it's a negative not a positive. See my previous post up there Matt

ok, got that, sorry..
Ok, if I go back to the yellow wire ( brake light), I will not have enough aux power cable length to travel to teh front of the bike. Does anybody know what type of power cable I need ( can I get it from halfords / maplin)
thanks dxtans

Well eventually got tom-to wired and mounted OK, Took the D9 for a quick spin, tom-tom is OK and totally readable till you get to 60mph, then it starts to vibrate a bit. That's probably down to the £12.99 tom-tom handlebar grip device I was using. So yes quite pleased with it
