Probably wasn't insured or no claim made. Wouldn't have wanted to be on it at the time though! Made my eyes water just thinking about it Trev

Insurance write-offs are far removed from true write-offs. This bike looks like a true write-off. Prob a few rear-end bits on it though - & a Scottoiler by the looks of it. Worth the current bid, at least, if you have one & need the bits. As for trying to make it roadworthy again - even if the frame was perfectly straight, I'd think it would cost a fair bit .

I think that I am right in saying, that the recording of, in an official capacity, of an insurance write off, is a fairly new innovation, Cat A, Cat B etc etc. and marked as such on log books. This may have been dealt with before all of that was introduced. It sounds good anyway.

It certainly does not look like something that you could repair, well at least not within a budget that would get you something in far better shape. Might be OK for spares, but at what price.

The only things I can see on it that look ok are the seat, rear light and rear wheel. Whats that lot worth to re sell... then you have to pay to get the rest of it scraped.

when i saw this bike i never dreamt they would try and sell it as a viable repair,as long as they replace the brake pads those were below the limit
