Haven camp somewhere on a late break. Linky Kids will be happy with plenty to do, which means dad and mum can have fun.

Day trips? Clumber park, plenty of open space for kids to go wild. East coast (after Easter week-end) weather looks ok till wednesday. Or if wife drives, leave her to it and head for the hills on the bike trev

Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford, north of Leicester. Strool, run, walk to see the folly 'Old John', atop the hill, then back down for ice creams or lunch at the Bradgate Arms, or cafe/visitor centre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradgate_Park

Sherwood Forest, and play at Robin Hood ! Rutland water, leics.. walking and biking treks, (pushbikes that is) can hire them on site. 26 miles of purpose laid paths, should wear them out!

Carsington Waters near Wirksworth Derbys. It is a man made reserviour owned by Severn Trent. It is free to get in. There is plenty of grassland and a small adventure playground. An undercover picnic area. It has a visitors centre with interactive bits and pieces for the kids. A nice coffee shop and several other gift shops and craft shops. You have no need to spend a penny (other than what comes natrually) Not a bad day out.
