hello,
we are facing a problem on a XJ600 diversion 2003, the problem according to the workshop is concerned with the high speed of our fellow when riding the bike for fun, he confessed that over 8000 rpm. The workshop then said that the speed should be much lower becuase this bike, on a higher speed is overheated and vaporize the oil. The workshop recommended speed is 110-120 kmh, I donĀ“t now in miles, but anyway the speed achieved by a 250 cc bike such as the hondacb 250, what sounds pretty strange. The muck after riding is so visible, well a pool of oil and he feels embarrased apart from the worry concerning the problem. He though about a second opinion or even selling the bike. Last but not least, when the bike got its servicing, new oil and filter, the leak did not appear. How come?
thanks
Bah

Explain better? Where is the leak, the exhaust is a big area. I have found oil on the exhaust headers that got there by blowing out the smaller breather in the rocker cover, that pipe had cracked with age and the oil leaked out onto the head, and down onto the exhaust, so it looked like it was coming out the header area.
I commute 30km to work, 30 km back. My usual speed is about 130km/h, and the bike will run to190km/h on the clocks. Your mechanic friend is talking rubbish.
If you explain better where the oil comes from, we can help.

I think that the oil is coming from the breather pipe - certainly not the exhaust . Bah, riding the bike above 8000 rpm will not hurt it . I would find another workshop as the one you have is talking cojones

Hello,
well this is the problem to know where leak comes from, my friend only knows that was going out by the exhaust. In the meantime he went to another workshop since we all told in the forum to ask for othersĀ“opinion, no way of accepting that as normal. Second opinion said that it is certainly not normal and without a deep check said that could be coming from broken valves located in the breather pipe (leftover pipe would be the straight translation, said by the workshop). Thanks you both for the help, on behalf of my forum mate (yamaha divcersions Spain), I ride the 900 but we share the same forum and passion, xj diversion, either 600 or 900, good for commuting, cheap servicing, reliable and fun too. GeneralGman, good cojones, I felt as at home ):
cheers

Bah
I think if the oil is coming through the exhaust then you would also have some smoke from the exhaust as the excess oil burns off. I don't think this is impossible but it is far more likely that it is coming from the breather, this happens quite often. Condensation can form in the oil and block the breather a good clean out of the oil and pipe can help.
As for not riding above 120KPH, I've never heard such rubbish.
