timing chain noise would be there all the time would it not, the clicking noise my divvy is making is only there when engine is hot and the noise goes when the revs pick up i have the full service history when i brought the bike its has had about 8 oil changes in its 18000 miles tis a noisey engine tho

Timing chain noise can come and go. According to Dave Parry of Chelt most divvies 'tick' more when cold that hot. Mine just ticked all the time!
The first thing to do with a potential ticking engine is remove, reset and replace[1] the tensioner with is a ratchet jobbie in D6's and doesn't always click on.
[1] As in 'put back in'.

could potentially be clutch noise that you maybe confusing with timing chain

TBH, monsieur pebbles, mine made a terrible racket. Never missed a beat all the while I had it though. It's called charcter, I believe
