Trundling through a village in a South Wales Valley - kids about so careful on speed. Suddenly from a group of kids/teenagers outside a shop a girl ran out literally in front of me. Absolutely no chance of avoiding her.
I was covering the brakes and emergency stopped leaving a 6ft skid mark from front tyre! The girl bounced off the faring dead centre then jumped up and ran across the road into the shop. Not back to where she came from. Thank G*d there was nothing coming the other way.
I stopped of course and went into the shop. She wasn't badly hurt - minor bump on the head. Thankfully I got the name and address of a witness who confirmed I was going carefully and the girl had given me zero chance.
The girl's mother came over within 5 mins and they went home. There was no dodgy attitude (wonder if this is not the 1st such "event"). I then went to the local police to report the accident. They didn't seem bothered but took my details anyway. We'll see what happens now.
When I got home, noticed the rear RHS fairing mount plastic is broken and won't realign so looks like the internal frame has pushed back. So for all my efforts I now have a repair bill.
Thank goodness she didnt run into my side or I wasn't riding faster or driving a lorry. Shame I did't take the boring M4.
Can't help thinking that with a loud pipe, it'd have never happened.

Don't think a loud pipe would have made any diffrence. You did the right thing by reporting it and getting a witness. Makes sure you don't get a knock on the door later. Its a real downer in cases like this, as you have found out, you are the one with the damage and no real way of getting it sorted other than out of your pocket.

Who knows what would have happened if no-one had seen the accident. If I'd been driving a car, that girl could well have had ripped knee ligaments from the front bumper.
Did anyone see a recent Motor Cycle News... Some Govt advisor says bikes are far more dangerous to pedestrians than cars. He even publishes "statistics" with absolutely no evidence to support the figures.

Fail to see how that could be, as there is so much less actual mass and area when you compare a bike to a car. Think that is just another bit of anti biker hype.....

I presume he's taking things like handlebars into account and extrapolating the theoretical possible damage. Bloke's a T**T, but what do most govt officials really know about bikes. Recently there seems to have been a steady drip drip of anti motorbike stuff.
Everyone, please dont forget to write to your MP to throw out the latest nasty. A law has had a second reading which will require every motorcycle to be registered. That includes trials bikes, crossers, GP bikes. Nothing's excluded. Its intended to stop yobs on minimotos. As if they'll comply.
This law will hit bike museums and folk with classics that could never be made road legal.

Hi Werner. You could be right or worse... run into my side, bike falls over totally trashed, breaking my leg and the girl tumbles over the top to get hit by a bus going the other way.
Thankfully I got it about right, but one thing I need to learn about this area is Avoid The Valley Villages. There are so many main roads with continuous rows of terraced houses straight onto the pavement/footpath/sidewalk) with all the road safety issues that causes (count em).
The hills are good though just watch out for sheep (loads of jokes there).
