I have the chance to do a crossing Sydney ---> Perth on a BMW R1150R (modified screen and seats) in company with an R1150RT. Probably about September. It's about 4110 km ... one side of the continent to the other. Could be interesting ... Bruce

G,day Mate That sounds a good trip. I flew over it from Melbourne. Loads of nothing but sand, I met a guy who traveled over it with his car and caravan from Perth to Melbourne he did it over night so he did not boil his motor. Take care mate. Paul.

A mate of mine crossed the Nullarbor back in 2001 when he rode from Perth to Sydney on a 1978 CX500. Which ran predominantly on one cylinder. He'd only been riding a year, he admits now that 'youthful enthusiasm' (ignorance!) helped. I'm still amazed when I think about it.
The bike eventually died on the way back after he binned it losing the front on a wet tram-line in Melbourne. He dumped it there and got a train back to WA.

Yeah, it; but this is sorta cheating -- Sydney and Perth are down the bottom, narrower bit; it's much wider across the middle.
Last time I did the trip was in 1971 -- and half the Nullarbor was unsealed dirt road. Now THAT was fun! Not ...

My cousins who lived in Adelaide retired in their early 50s a few years ago and loaded up their K1100 hitched up a trailer and did Adelaide to Perth, Perth To Darwin, Darwin to Adelaide as their retirement trip. Also in subsequent years Did Adelaide to Melbourne and Sydney to see the kids over Christmas and new year, sort of Summer holidays. Going direct route and coming back via the coastal route. now in their 60s and bad backs have forced a change to vehicle they now use a camper van.
