Cant believe its been 17 months since Ethan was diagnosed with Leukaemia... and over 12 months since the exceedingly nice people who ride or rode Diversions did a fair bit of fundraising for Ethans benefit... Since receiving the funds we have done a fair bit with the money... electronic gadgets/playstations etc but we always intended to hold back the majority for early this year when hopefully Ethans health would have improved somewhat and we could get away for a holiday which otherwise probably would not have happened. Ethan finished the 3rd intensive stage of his chemotherapy in January which meant that the Hickman line installed in his chest to allow drugs to be administered straight to his heart could come out. This was a real landmark as swimming ( something Ethan loves) becomes possible again. The operation to remove the line went well and after a short spell back in hospital with a bout of shingles in mid February which was rather unfortunate to say the least... we managed to get away first week of March.... Where to go in March with someone who wants to swim everyday.... abroad was out of the question as we still have to stay within easy travelling distance of Manchester Childrens Hospital in case of infections etc so CenterParcs in Cumbria... here we come!
We all had a fantastic week..... very nearly switching off to the point of forgetting which was desperately needed...Although the intensive chemo has finished Ethan still has 2 more years of lower dose chemo/steroids/lumbar punctures etc etc He is feeling a little more himself with hair growing back etc and returning to school part time but we obviously still have some way to go... As you can see from the pics Ethan really enjoyed his holiday which is thanks to you all. Thank you most sincerely one and all.... apparently the bike gadget makes Ethans trips up the hills easier... my legs however prayed for my trusty Divvy... havent been on a proper cycle for a while....ouch!!
Once again thank you one and all and ride safe.
