That's my quandry. My leather trousers are now nearing their sell by date and in order to maintain my high vis profile (so big you can't miss it ) for the summer I was considering getting a pair of armoured jeans with the Knox implants(!). Does anybody have any opinions / thoughts / suggestions on the matter, based on experience All comments gratefully received..............

Having seen some Draggin Jeans the other day I think thats what we'll be wearing this summer. It seems to be a good compromise and certainly for touring. It just depends on how much protection you think you will need.

Only one problem i can see with armoured jeans. Your knees, shins and hips are protected with reinforced kevlar panels, but most of the time you skid along on your a r s e where there's no protection, and believe me that's where you need it (tarmac is still as abrasive in the summer as it is in the winter), unless of cause you like plenty of visits to the hospital.
Just my opinion

Leather for me every time and apart from skin protection they dont slide on the seat. Leather is also not a good insulator I don't find mine too hot in summer, but I obviously have to change out when I arrive so not as convenient as denim.
Some of the stuf is an aquired tase, but last year Hein Gericke had some hybrid jeans which looked pretty good. Don't know about this year. M&P is also worth a look if you are in the Swansea area.

Leather every time for me.
What's the point of being a bloke with a mid-life crisis if you can't wear leather?

Have textiles all year really............But the wife bought me some Jeans at the BMF Tailender and I have worn them since then. They are quite warm and very comfy. May be wearing them at one or two runs this year....Weather permitting.

I've come off bikes at speed (1) wearing both jeans/leather jacket and full leathers. Most of the Island roads used to be gritted rather than tarmaced when I was first riding so appreciate that made a big difference. It was like landing on the worlds heftiest grade sandpaper lol Jeans lasted a few feet before you had a nice skin/road interface. And it hurts! I read a review/test somewhere (still looking for the link) that the Kevlar reinforced jeans last approx twice the slide distance over plain heavy denim before they give up. Which in my mind makes them pointless (and pricey - £80 for something that will stive give up if you slide off at 40mph?) Thats why I only ever wear full leathers now (not in bed obviously unless its a special occasion) Ady (1) The scars fade after while (15-20 years....) but my right knee still gives me grief.

Well, looks like it's all a matter of personal taste then. Taking everything into consideration - including the fact that I am indeed having a midlife crisi (wife reckons I've been having it for the past 10yrs now !) I think I shall stay with leather. Another major factor being of course that I went shopping the other day and couldn't get my lardy backside into any of the jeans I could find ! So........... thanks for all the advice. Does anybody have any opinions on the most appropriate underwear to wear under leather ?......maybe not eh !!
