Only project that I can think is appropriate is:
How do I spend an extortionate amount of money

Well, the first thing you'd need to do is find a swingarm from a shaft drive bike. The D6 has quite a small swingarm, and most shafties are bigger bikes so you're going to have problem finding one small enough. Then you'll have to come up with something ingenious to transfer the power from the drive shaft (sans front cog) to the shaft on the swingarm. It will need to turn the power through 90 degrees and fit within the frame, possibly using tapered cogs. We'll call this technique 'sorcery' Aka 'B*ggered if I know' ;D Hope this helps T.

You need parts from another bike, with a narrow engine (this determines the frame width and so the swingarm pivot width) that makes at least as much power as the diversion so it all fits together. Then you need to be sure those bits fit in such a way you could line the shat up, then you need to lose the D6 front sprocket and use a bevel gear instead. I would think about swingarms from a 650 Revere, the engine is of course narrow being a smallish V twin, it probably makes about 10hp less than the Divvy so it's close enough I would think. The trick will be getting the power from the engine to the wheel.
Can you explain why? Just buy a D9 as above unless it's for some sort of apprenticeship or project. It doesn't have nearly enough benefits to do as a project just for fun, in my eyes.

another potential problem, you'll be needing a bigger pivot bolt than for a conventional swingarm. Normally it's fine to use the original pivot bolt and sleeve it down, but I don't think that's wise for a singlesided arm, especially where it's got the shaft drive through it. So you'll need to open out the frame's holes. This is of course not reversible...
The NTV swingarms go cheap-cheap and have direct non-linked suspension so at least that makes it easier than it could have been.

What about the final drive gearing that will take some working out you might build it all and find it wont pull more than first gear or screaming its nuts of at 30 in top.

Buy a 900, rip out the motor and then put a 600 in. Only kidding
