Hi I have just bought an 03 600 diversion with around 20000 miles the problem is that I can only select 1st & 2nd gears the gear lever does not appear to have the normal spring loaded feel that I have noticed with my other bikes, if the bike is on the center stand and the rear wheel is rocked it will select other gears but this is very difficult and stiff also when attempting to go from second to third there is no feel to the lever it is solid the same sort of feel as when it would be in top gear and attempting to change up . Any help advice most appreciate as I have absolutely no idea my self many thanks Nash

Bent selector forks?
Incidentally, the d6 gearbox doesn't have a stop for trying to go below first or above sixth, the lever just moves but doesn't do anything. Bit disconcerting / odd, to my mind.

Worn/stuck clutch plates? Perhaps the clutch springs are gone? It may be worth popping the clutch cover off to check, but remember to drain the oil first I also recommend making sure you have a spare clutch gasket first; as it's almost guaranteed to split. Not expensive, just a pain in the rear if you don't have one on hand for putting it back together. I'm not the most technical forum member; (though I tend to ask pretty technical questions ), but if you can catch the attention of users like Reaper, you'll likely get an answer quickly. Welcome, by the way T.

If it were a sticky clutch I would bet you wouldn't get any gears, or at best just one and not be able to select at all. Bent forks would mean you could go up/ down for first / second, but maybe not get the exact positions of the other gears, so they wouldn't engage.

Has it been dropped?
If so has the gearlever shaft been bent and is binding on the crankcase or bearing carrier? I've seen it done on other bikes - trail bikes used off-road.
If it is then it can be straightened easily.

Hi thanks for the advice so far no I dont think the bike has been dropped, looks in really good condition I was thinking of getting a replacement complete engine assembly does it matter what year it is from or are they all a straight replacement?.Then when it is running I could investigate the problem with the original with a look to overalling it & refit to keep the bike original, anyone think this is cost effective or am I wasting more money on it. cheers nash

D6's up to '95 have a slightly different engine from those after '95. The main difference is the addition of an oil cooler, but there's also differences like a handlebar mounted clutch, different carbs and a couple of other changes.
Hope this helps

Hi all think I may be close to a fix? on the advice of a mechanic I added a oil flush then changed the oil & filter all the gears are now operating although the gear lever has no spring action so the lever has to be positioned manually for the next gear change any ideas of any broken springs I might be suffering. cheers Nash

Had similar problem after running mine for the first time in a year. The clutch seemed very reluctant to allow me to change gear beyond first and second. I dropped the oil for some nice new 'shiny' stuff and it improved.
After a couple of hours riding all seems good again, so maybe yours just need some fresh juice and a good run out.
