Hi ive changed my oil filter and drained the oil ive fill it back up with about 2l of oil bt still nothing in sight glass. it shows when i was close to end of filling then bubbles down. Im gonna check it again tommorow morning (see if it settles) but was wondering if the 2.2l of oil that is stated for the bike is right or if thats when it will show in the sight glass at min mark?. Its a divvy 600 and it was on level ground on centre stand. oh and the bike runs so its not pouring straight into the engine. ;D thanks ps sometimes the right tool is the best , tried a screwdriver still wouldnt budge borrowed proper chain wrench and it was all joy.

If you've changed the filter as well, it will hold between 2.5 and 2.6 litres of oil, depending on year of bike.

What Trev says.
I would fill it until the oil shows in the glass, then run it for a few minutes so it also fills the filter, let it settle then top up towards the top of the glass. You wont see it fill the glass until you have put enough in.
The 600 has an oil level light, that will soon let you know if it's not full enough.

turns out it took about 2.6 - 2.7l worth of oil but i may have spilt a bit and this was with oil filter change.

Bike has to be almost perfectly vertical or the sump will get over or underfilled. The D600 I used to have listed to the left on its centrestand so getting the oil level correct was quite a faff with bits of plywood under a centrestand foot.

i measured it in 3 different palces as nowhere round where i live seems level. one place it was empty other halfway/third up (think theres slight camber) so i went for middle of the markings when it was not showing anything and im confident its not overfilled. bloomin faff.

I've put a spirit level across the fuel filler before to make sure it's level I always make sure I just fill it enough so it's slightly off the top mark, just so I can see the level clearly. I'm sure the oil level switch gets a little sensitive in the colder weather

I personally think the oil level windows used on bikes are a carp cheap and nasty idea. I guess they are a few pence per engine cheaper than a flexible central dipstick. But if cars can have a flexible dipstick that goes into the centre of the engine and therefore can't give a false reading why cant bikes have the same.
