If your D6 got to about 8k rpm in 6th gear just fine, but the rev counter started doing a little dance after that while the speedo didn't do much at all, it'd mean your clutch was shaqqed, wouldn't it?
Next question, I know exactly where to go for Honda bits, where do you go for Yamaha bits mail order? Am I looking at a reaming for a gasket and friction plates (here's hoping it's not also the steels)
I think this would also be a good time to sort that pin. I have access to a rattle gun, so getting the clutch off isn't a problem. The pin's 5.5mm, but anyone know how long? I'm conscious that using the end of a drill bit as suggested is a great idea, but the steel is very hard, so I may struggle to cut it cleanly at home.

Sounds like your clutch could be on the way out (I assume you've checked cable adjustment etc...) Parts-wise, these boys are pretty good for OE, or you can get an EBC clutch kit from any of the mail order specialists: www.fowlers.co.uk/

Yep, cable adjustment is fine with "just enough" freeplay at the lever end. I have it in for EBC tbh, due to two pairs of pads separating from the backings, so I don't really want their clutch either. Thanks for the link

Just as an afterthought, is it possible the springs are worn? Should they be replaced as a matter of course? The lever still has plenty of spring in it, but I guess they could be compressed a bit. Likely, and worth having the bits in stock, or mostly a waste of money?
