Hi, I have just got a crashed 600 diversion i think its a 96 but will find out when papers get to me. Lots of work needed but my first problem is that i cannot get the seat off, the locking mechanism under the seat is jammed and it will not release, any ideas how to get round this?

Have you tried pushing down hard on the rear of the seat as you attempt to turn the key ?
Or you could try some WD40 down the lock.

Alternatively, you could tell Beebs there's a naked picture of Cherie Blair under the seat - should do the trick ;D . Dave ;D

If you follow the wire from behind where the key goes in, you may be able to cut the outer cable and pull on the inner cable (or find an exposed bit of onner cable). It may be that the latch is not moving enough if the cable has stretched.
If it is the latch is rusted, I don't think you can get any panels off without the seat off. Can you get access from underneath at all? Carefull if you do remove the plastic above the rear wheel as I guess there may be lots of things sitting on there to fall down.

The clasp was badly rusted up, ended up havin to break the panle on the left hand side to get access, fortunatly it was already damaged so no great loss, intended on makin a custom out of it anyway so looks like im startin with the rear end. Thanks guys

Did I say something on Saturday night after a couple of pints that wasn't right? Glad you got your seat sorted MB. I've always wondered how to get to it if I couldn't get in with the key.

Hi
I've recently passed my test and purchased a German import 600S Diversion - great bike and I'm trying to get the seat off to change the air filter.
Can't see a lock and simply can't figure out how the seat comes off, yes I'm new to bikes and would appreciatte any help.
Cheers
Tim

this is a pic of an early 600s the key hole for the seat is between the frame rails above the pillion footpegs (to the left of the date in this pic ;D) and i believe its in the same place on the newer 600s aswell

It's the same lock as the helmet carrier but turned the opposite direction (well it is on 900's but I am sure it will also be on 600s)
HTH
