Hi all, being new to biking I'm not sure whether this is an issue or a characteristic of teh bike, but at around 4000 revs my '99 xj600n vibrates more than at any other point on the rev range. As near as I can judge, it starts at 4000 and stops (or settles down) at 4100.
Any ideas on what it might be and whether I can or should do anything about it?
Cheers
Chris

Yup it's normal. Mine does it to A quote from the 'About the 600' section says.... 'Vibration around 4000-4500rpm is normal. Can be improved by careful valve clearance adjustment and carb balancing. - RW -

welcome to the vibrating divy, I have had two 600's one a 96 model and this one a 93 model, they both vibrate at around 4 to 4 and a half rpm, annoying, but sometimes pleasurable ;D

Heated grips actually help. Warm hands suffer less from vibration.

I actually get the worst vibes around 3500 rpm; however I think that may have more to do with my carbs needing balanced T.

yep...mine does it at around 3800-4200RPM. found that having your carbs balanced helps a touch....but not to much

Sounds like a common "feature" of the divvy. It's my first bike and I bought it primarily cos it was cheap and in better nick than others I'd looked at, I'm quite enjoying it now.

When I had the 600, I tried big spongy grips. Horrible things they simply increased the pressure under the middle of my palms rather than taking it on the thenar and hypothenar muscles. At least gave the excuse to get heated grips. Bar pull-backs make you sit a bit more upright taking pressure off the hands. IMO that makes the vibes less of an issue. My bro syas the 600 handles better with the pull backs as he now has better control. We have these on my 900 and his 600. They dont suit everyone but I'd not go back to normal bars and my bro is happy. mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=554407
