Allow me to introduce myself, I live in Scotland and bought a old nag, a 1992 Diversion 900S for use during Spring, Summer and Autumn. Winter too cold with ice, sleet and snow at times. She needed some work, mainly front shock seals which a local chap did with cheaper (than Yamaha parts) seals. Only the one seal was leaking when I took the bike to him, both were leaking on return. I then rode around all season long and when the MOT was due took it off the road. Redid the shocks myself with Original Yamaha parts and then bought a complete service kit and propshaft oil. Sorting out other issues and the throttle had become detached from the heated handgrip. The heated handrips weren't working (controller dies which it always does) anyway so removed the wiring and grip. Now my question finally is.....is there supposed to be any tube on the left hand side or is the grip bonded straight onto the chrome handlebars. I am cutting away at the heated handgrip and that seems to me all there is - just the grip with no tube beneath? Anyone with ideas please.

Hi, welcome 🙂.
The left hand grip is direct onto the bar. You can, if you don’t mind destroying the grip, cut right along its length to remove it. Otherwise they can be quite hard work to remove, depending how much glue has been used when they were fitted. Prying with a screwdriver can sometimes assist in getting it off without wrecking it, so worth a go if you want to keep it, perhaps as a spare grip.

I use a long thin screwdriver lubricated with WD40, then push it between the grip and handlebar, then rotate it, and the grip will easily slide off
