Hi. Can anyone recommend a decent rear rack for a1998 XJ600N. I have a Givi top box but no rack. I can’t seem to find one anywhere as all I seem to find is racks for the S or Diversion
Does anyone know of a decent rack or if one for the diversion will fit ?
TIA David

Hi David.
Welcome to this august body.
A wing rack will work but might be expensive new. You would need a top plate and the specific fitting kit for the bike which I am sure would be available.
I bought my wing rack and side cases second hand off eBay and bought a fitting kit new from a dealer. Got fixed up with a full luggage setup for a fraction of the cost new.
Somebody who knows better will be along soon I am sure.

There see! I told you so! Well, sort-of! My original post, back in 2016, mentioned cone nuts, but I think I was confusing myself (thinking of the 900 Divvy fittings) - as they aren't used for the 600 fittings.

Instructions for Givi rack for XJ600 S & N: media.givi.it/XN-Prodotti/istruzioni/325F.pdfThis confirms what I remembered from fitting one to a N some years ago, that it is the same for both models. It does appear to use cone nuts. I seem to remember having to ream the subframe tube out a little to get the bits to go in.

Thanks Bob! Who'd have thought, that what I wrote 5 years ago would make more sense that what I wrote a couple of days ago . ....... I'm getting on a bit you know .

I don't think that there is any difference between the rear end of the S and N models, but there are differences between years. I moved the Wing Rack from my 1995 single front disc 600 to my 2000 twin front disc 600, and the mounting kits were different. The changes are subtle - so subtle that Givi did not change the diagram in the kits.
For while, i had my Wing Rack mounted using a mixture of the early mounting kit parts and Givi's universal ftting kit.
I also had the problem that Bobh had with needing to ream the inside of the tube. The problem is that the tubes are made by rolling a flat bar, and then welding the seam. The seam protrudes on the inside. I think I solved the problem by enlarging one of the slots in the expansion bolt (part 9 in the diagram which bob links to) with an angle grinder so that it would fit round the weld.
