The black and gold at 38k miles may seem a good option, ut for my money I would look at the black one with a third of the mileage (admittedly twice the price) as it seems to be more honest as a bike.

OK, found it now! Reading the description, it reads well enough & is probably fair value.
But there are some buts; DVLA think it's a green one. The description says "Yamaha XJ600-4BR" - which I believe is only the faired Diversion, not the naked 600N. Along with the non-standard clocks & all the other 'custom' bits on it, & what looks like the original fairing mounting points where some crash bungs have been mounted, that looks like a Diversion (faired 600) that has been turned into a 600n - maybe because of damage in the past, I'd imagine.
Since 2015 its only done about 350 miles, according to its MOT history.
So I'd not automatically discount it, but it's perhaps not all it appears to you.

yes i was going to leave it for the same reasons as you say it has been messed about with and there could be a problem with that clock set up and anyway i prefer the standard chrome twin clocks they look better

Item number 254585192833 No bids so far, 5 days to go on the auction and £799 From what I can see in the photos It is missing one mirror and the one it has looks after market. Sports bike shop will sell a matching pair for about £30. However, if I could not see it in person, I’d want to see a photo of the mounting point on the U clamp that hold the clutch lever in place. I know a complete muppet who has just had to replace the mount point in his XJ600S The chain looks like it needs a good clean, but the rear sprocket looks ok. Probably the original at 13000 miles. If you can’t see the bike before bidding I would mentally offset the price of a new chain into my buying budget. I’d be asking about how old the tyres are, and the make/model, and google the heck out of tyre “shelf life”. I think it is 5 years when fitted. The MoT history looks like it has been parked up for a while. You can ask for a photo of the year of manufacture markings on the tyre. www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.263513036.158427550.1588488214-276579255.1588488214I would mentally add in the cost of two new tyres into my buying budget. I’d also be asking the seller why DVLA says the colour is “Blue” The indicator lenses look like they have been smoke colour treated, but that is a question of taste. It needs a blooming good clean and polish to address some minor surface rust issues. Other than that, it looks like a good bike. It today’s crazy times, it might be worth taking a massive gamble and letting the auction run out, to see if it is a “no-bid” auction. Then contacting the seller with a lower offer. You’ll already have some communication history with the seller from asking the questions above. However, you might get someone bidding £800 at the last second, scuppering all of your research time & effort.

i think you are right let it run and see what happens, and another thing i would do if the bike was mine i would be off with the front mudguard the manifold pipes and i would attack the oil cooler pipes with some wire wool maybe some red oxide and then with black hammerite metal paint before they go any worse plus if they are not already on some allen bolts for the manifold with some copper slip grease and while the job was going on maybe replace the exhaust copper gaskets if need be i have heard that brass nuts are good because they dont get welded on

Hello YamPilot, The maroon/red one - 1 bid at £400 ? With a slight miss-fire. Is that the one? At least the seller is being honest about the misfire, and this is half the price (for now) of the black one. I don't have the spanner skills to be able to take that one on with the confidence of a cheap repair.
I'm sure you'll have picked up on these too, but: It is also missing a bar end weight - easy enough to find on eBay. Front beak lever looks a bit banana'd. I can't use my own as a guide, as there was a transit van incident that we don't talk about. Sorry The engine bars are a nice touch. It may be a reflection, or they may have some small scuffs from a drop Engine fin lacquer coat is looking a bit tatty - cosmetics, but this is a twenty-year-old 23,000-mile bike, that looks to be generally rust free and in good condition for age/mileage. If you have the confidence to take on the "Slight miss fire" issue, you could be on a winner.

that's the one Kabulcalling overall it doesn't look in that bad of a condition and as for the misfire problem i have a good mate who is a very good bike mechanic i could take the bike to him if i did get success with the bidding anyway like i say there is a few days to go yet so see what happens, by the way what do you think of the black clocks i thought they should be chrome what are your thoughts ?

10 hours to go, with the bid at £420 I don't think the black clock covers should be a concern for you. There may be a good story around that Best of luck with whatever you decide to do
