Is it just me or is anyone else already fed up with those two words Carbon Footprint I had never heard of it two months ago and now I want to throttle everyone that uses it !! Even "Blue Sky Thinking" and "In General Terms" seem more palletable after this one !! Don't get me wrong, I am very sensitive to the environment and all the damage we are doing but do we have to do these two words to death. My company have a header on all e-mails which says: - "Just think, do you really need to print out this email? Together we can make our carbon footprint a size smaller" Oh yes very nice, and we have eased our conscience a bit - but we are a printing company FFS !! I propose a motion to ban the words "Carbon Footprint" from this site - anyone want to second that motion ?? Well I thought I would "Put it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes" Grrrrrrr Rant over, I'll get me coat !! Dave ;D

Nice brain dump Dave - I think we're all singing off the same hymn sheet here. Just need a bit of joined up thinking and we can get our ducks in a row, push the envelope and pick off the low hanging fruit [1].

I'll second it Dave, and also want to ban:environmentally friendly and green credentials.

Agreed. I think if we all adopt ecological debt as the metaphor for our environmental sustainability, clear-water thinking will become easier. I'm all for any measures which enhance our facundity. I hope I've made a small impact in this respect.

There was a prog on the tel about this GW thinghy, and most of the weather historians cleary showed that carbon dioxide IS NOT the cause of the earths warmings, and in fact, the Earth has a history of warming and cooling , and it is when the C02 levels drop that the temperature actually rises, so some time soon in the next few hundred years, yes the earth will increase in temp, then cool again as co2 levels start to pick up again, It was a fasinating program...
PS we could all do our bit of course>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
stop all runs and take public transport instead, I think not ;D

Wow Martin Had to look up that word "Facundity" being mere welsh here not used to proper english.
For those that want to know noun Vivid, effective, or persuasive communication in speech or artistic performance: articulacy, articulateness, eloquence, eloquentness, expression, expressiveness, expressivity.

Its all just another way for the governments of the world to shaft and screw their citizens for even more money.
Whats giving your money to a company that says they are planting trees in Honduras or somewhere on your behalf? How the heck do you check up on this? Fly out there just to see how your saplings are doing? It's a great scam! How many people are going to actually go and see 'their' trees? I bet they dont even exist, the cash has gone to fund some scammers drug habit!

Indeed Andy. I just ordered a collection and delivery using ParcelForce and on the order I had the option to donate money for them to reduce their Carbon Footprint

I blame the cows. all this methane production must be having some effect on the atmosphere?
Would make the vegies happy, but then eating more vegetables would make us fart more and hence be just as bad as the cows!

I saw it too. Cows produce collosal amounts of methane (from both ends!) Maybe billywhizz can remember the stats?? Meat is murder. Kill the cows.

What's totally daft is USA had 15 years of government research that proved they could grow enough oily aquatic algae to meet all of their oil fuel needs on a small precentage of their desert lands in the South West USA. The Aquatic Species Program (I think it was called) would have cost in 1999 $100 Billion, but would have replaced 100% of their USA's petroleum. The algae grow in shallow ponds and are about 50% oils. The oils can be used as... oil ( :-) ) and the green sludge burned in power stations. the ash goes back into the ponds and the whole lot is 100% renewable, for ever and ever.
Wow $100,000,000,000 that's a lot of money. I wonder what the Iraq war has cost to date in a gormless attempt to bully the locals into coughing up more oil for the USA.
Global warming may or may not be a manmade issue, but petroleum is already running out and when it does it will dry up suddenly. Then what do we do?
Is USA resurrecting the Aquatic Species Program? "Go figure" as they say over there.

The Iraq war has cost the US of A $408,014,779,508. But that was three minutes ago and it's gone up several thousand dollars since then.

Until the Gulf War it was cheaper to dig our oil out of the ground and throw it into the sky. Now its most obviously not cheaper and the US know it. Hopefully they will resurrect the program but it will take time. Its a sort of agriculture with all the problems that suffers (weeds, plant disease, nutition, etc). But none of it can't be solved by research & development.
There's a snag, the algal oil is much like diesel fuel and isn't cheap to convert to petrol. The future is probably green diesel powered.
