I am toying with the idea of getting a Sat/Nav. As it would be my first attempt at this, and I am bound to make errors: What would you recommend for reasonable money. Say up to £300.
Could I get something decent for that money?
Any advice appreciated.
Jim

Hi Jim You could get a Garmin Quest or a TomTom Rider for that sort of money. I've had both and prefer the TomTom as it has Postcode capabilities and is all touch screen. Also comes with a bluetooth headset for the helmet so you can put your phone into it too. You'd need a seperate mount for the car (@£30) but well worth it. Have a look here www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-rider.php or www.garmin.com/products/quest/Matt

Hi Matt
Yes - I like the spec of the Tom Tom Rider. I'll have a trawl through the WWW and see what prices they are going for.
Thanks for the input - have an exalt!
Jim

Have to agree with Matt, Tom Tom Rider for me. Never had any sort of satnav before but get on really well with mine. Ps. if you need any more tips ask Apricot, he's sooo good with a sat nav (hasn't been lost since Sunday ) Trev

Slightly off on a tangent i know. I bought Pete a TomTom for christmas to replace his unreliable Garmin Sat Nav. Less than a month later he changed the car to one with SmartNav fitted as standard...... i was well miffed.

"Ps. if you need any more tips ask Apricot, he's sooo good with a sat nav (hasn't been lost since Sunday )" Trev, I was trying to find your place on my sat nav ready for the rendevous en-route to Scotland and it didn't appear. A quick call to Garmin confirmed my worst fears - "We don't provide mapping for those sorts of areas, Sir. It would get knicked off your handlebars while you were moving..............." ;D Your turn to serve.... ydA

I've had a look around the net for a best price for the Tom Tom Rider, best I saw was £364. Best on Ebay Buy it Now was £370. It's a tad more than I wanted to pay for a new 'toy', so it's now on hold.

use a map and be normal?
I have been all my life. I'm lucky, I can study a route on a map and memorise it, then (usually) drive straight there.
I did it London to Glencoe Village on the D9 last June. And have on numerous other occasions.
Saying all that...I still may buy a Sat/Nav system to play with, if I can find one at the right price!
