I seem to have a problem with my engine oil.... A whiteish substance seems to be coming from the air box overflow. Cleaned out the air box today and also cleaned the breather pipes, one of which was blocked by this foam type substance... I will be replacing the engine oil, but can you name some brands to use... Should it be semi or fully synthetic thanks Martin

is it ridden often? how far? are you a gentle rider ? usually the whitish stuff is emulsified oil. like you said i would make sure all the breather pipes are clean, just put the cheapest 10w40 you can find and go thrash it like you stole it, that should get rid of any remaining water in their... i would consider changing the oil and filter again after say 1000 miles. if you plan on keeping her i wouldn't worry about oil type, just keep sticking cheap 10w40 and a new filter often, the D6 lets you know when the oil has had enough the gear change tends to go kinda clunky ( well more clunky than usual ) Flymo

Check the head gasket isnt the problem as when you empty via the drain plug make sure it isnt water mixing, if mot you should be good to go

This white emulsion of water & oil isn't uncommon if the bike is used mostly for short runs. What Flymo says is spot on advice.
As the engine is air-cooled I wouldn't worry about water ingress via the head gasket.

I wouldn't call 20 miles a short run. Short runs are less than 5 miles when the engine and oil don't get up to proper working temperature.
