Lots of people have lots of different opinions on this subject. I will stick my neck out and say either of those will do, 20w 40 or 20w 50 is possibly better as it is so warm. I personally use 10w 40 all year round. If you got the hand book with the bike - it will have recommended oil written in it. One last thing - only my opinion but no need to spend more than about 20 quid for your oil (4 or 5 Litres) Welcome to the site btw.

When it was very hot during the summer I changed to 20/50 for my d9, the hot 10/40 came out as thin as black coffee, much quieter and a slick gear change, bike in the house so it never gets cold so will probably run it through winter with the thicker oil, don't get ripped off for oil, Smith and Allen will deliver for about £20,API L rated which is 20 years old now but is what was available back when the bikes where new, they do a motorcycle specific oil that doesn't have additives(teflon)

Think I'll check their website. I'd be interested to see if any particular brands and grades are favoured for 900 Diversion if a few of you could reply ! Ta
