I removed the l/h silencer today and the joint between the collector box and silencer split.
The cans are old but look ok(ish) and my first instinct was just to splash out £240 on a pair of Delkevics, but I did wonder if it's worthwhile getting a new end piece for the silencer welded on. Is it worth the hassle?
The collector box looks ok so I'm just interested in the cans at the moment.

Actually, it's not as bad as first feared. It was really only the gasket which had disintegrated and I re-assembled it and it looks ok. However, the flange part of the can which slides over the collector pipe is frayed at the edges and I'm sure that it isn't going to be a perfect seal. I might wrap a bit of aluminium tape round it but we'll see how it performs first.
I quite fancy new cans anyway.

Well, this is what £30 worth of welding looks like. The guy did a good job but the angle isn't quite right - he didn't have the bike to check the alignment and it will need a bit of work with the hammer to get it perfect. The top one was done by the previous owner, the bottom one today

Rather than start a new thread I thought it better to bump this one. I've got a full motad system on my 900 and I'm perfectly happy with it in every way except the appearance of the cans. The chrome has started to lift and there's some rust around the exit; is it possible to get these tidied up anywhere or as a DIY job? I hate chrome at the best of times never mind tatty chrome.
