Can you programme a route on your PC then upload it to the Tom Tom Rider?
Most the time it's the roads I'm interested in, not the destination,
and I could'nt do this with the Go 300 via the touch screen. (You touch the screen
but it finds some tiny road you can't see and puts that on the route and makes you do a U turn!)
With the Garmins, you can plot a set of waypoints on a PC then upload it as
a route - specifically want this for cycling and motorcycling to follow specified routes.
Post Code Nav is a requirement as well, for when I just need to get somewhere!
Also can anyone recommend an earpiece that doesn't get uncomfortable after 1/2 hour in a helmet?
cheers

Hi Cookie.
I'm at work right now, so I can't answer definitively, but as far as I'm aware, you can lay in a series of "waypoints" by telling it to reach your destination by going there "via" this place, that place and the other place, etc, etc.
Needless to say, it does full postcode navigation. You can also tell it to avoid motorways or main roads.
The supplied earpiece is perfectly fine over long distances. You also get a second earpiece which is similar to the sort of thing you get with an Ipod. Personally, I don't like sticking things IN my ears, so I rely on the helmet earpiece.
I've also just added the UK Speed Cameras to the map for £3 (Ebay) and it now warns me each time I approach one. You get to set the warning distance too!
Tom.

Check out www.pocketgps.co.uk to download a free speed camera database that is regularly updated. I use it on my Tom Tom on a Palm and it has been a licence saver several times.

I've just bought a TTR from Halfords yesterday. I went to Pocket GPS's website as recommended to download the Speed Camera Database. I paid the subscription and downloaded the files to my PC. I followed the instructions to copy them into the relevant folder on TTR. But how do I know that they are there ? They dont show up in the POI's on TTR. Any help please ? Thanks

Hi tburton99
How have you gone on, did you sort it.
All I would advise is that you take it out for a run round your neighbourhood to test it. If you still have no joy, let me know and I will email you the method I use to get it on.
Cheers

Hi, yes it does appear to be on the TTR. I plugged TTR into my PC the other day and looked at the installed progammes and it showed it in there. I did also activate the free 1 month trial from TomTom for traffic alerts and stuff, but not sure if that was a wise idea now. It does notify me on screen when approaching a camera but there is no voice notification, I wish there was as that is very handy. I have seen someone on EBay selling a full disk iof extras for TTR and its says it includes voice notifications for Speed Cameras, so maybe I will give that a try. Any other help or suggestions are very welcome, Thanks

Hi
I wonder if you have the normal audible warnings set, Bell, Cow etc. These can be set through the change preferences screen, Enable / disable POIs. Tick the ones you want to show up, then go to manage POIs, warn when near POI, find the camera alerts and tick the one / ones you want to activate. It will then ask you if you want to remove warning, assuming it is already set, tick no, it will then take you through the distance and warning sound, choose the one you want. You can download the voice warnings via www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-poi-alerts.php One word of warning, make sure to read the instructions regarding downloading the right set of warnings because if you get the wrong ones you may damage your TomTom. It's all to do with checking which version of software is already on your |rider.
If you then follow the instructions on that web page you should end up with spoken warnings as opposed to a bell or whatever.

Never been able to find a way of uploading a route to the Tom Tom on my iPAQ.
I just plan it on the computer using autoroute & then transpose the require route onto the iPAQ using the "Advanced Planning" option on Tom Tom. You can add your own "Vias" & waypoints to make the GPS follow the route that you want.
I use Checkpoint to warn of traffic cameras. It's a free download from checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/. It updates each time you synchronise with your computer and therfore updates your system with any new cameras out there.
