My best friends for rounded allens like these are a set of Torx bits. You can usually find one to fit (or hammer in!) to gain enough purchase to undo them.

Have you tried a screw extractor bit? Once inserted into your drill they unscrew slowly with the drill in reverse.

If you spray a bit of easing fluid onto stubborn bolts leave for a while to soak in then attempt to undo. If you taking tank off - don't forget to turn petrol off. atb

Thanks guys for all the advice.
I have tried to find some Plusgas that Spike recommended but I can't get it over here in Australia. The closest thing I found was some sort of freezing spray. With it being the master cylinder I didn't know if that would cause more damage than good.
I tried a screw extractor on the master cylinder screw but it wont get a purchase on it.
I will have a go with the Torx bits that you suggested for the Allen bolt and see if I have any joy.

Drill out but only down as far as the screw head, then remove the cap and unscrew the remains with mole grips.

an easy way to fix the stripped screws on the master cylinder cap is to select a drill bit a bit smaller than the diameter of the screw head. Drill into the head very gently & easily & you'll go through the screw head & expose the shaft of the screw. You can then pry the lid off & the screw shaft should unscrew easily with pliars - replace with socket head cap screws (allen keys) & you'll never have this problem again

Can you not buy WD40 in Australia , chain lube or even easy start would do the same job , but be careful as the tanks are plastic, an impact driver should do the trick,if used with that in mind. I did try a remote on my XJ600 when the brakes went mush like those on my 900s had, which was down to the return valve ,not returning, and chanced second hand the unit down from the master cylinder, and a syringe to purge any air, in the pipes,as the master cylinder on the big Divvy I had the same screw issues, same on the XJ which had one disc linked to a return valve and another straight down from the dual banzo, so got shot of the return valve bit .
