Folks , Just done my shims ,went to replace the cam chain tensioner ,the drill is to compress the plunger and refit . My problem is that when I lift the tab and push in the plunger then drop down the tab again the springs just pushes the plunger straight out again past the tab as if the springs are to strong !!!!!, I know the plunger has to be compressed before fitting so why won't the tab hold back the plunger(tensioner) as it's supposed to ??, Is the ctc tab worn or am I missing something Billy.

Forgot to add ,bikes a 97 with only 12000 miles ,is it possible the ratchet for holding back the plunger is worn already ??,the teeth look ok but the internal springs just seem to strong for the tab ?

Yes do be careful as if the tensioner is too tight and the timing not spot on you can damage valves, or too loose the chain can cog jump.I regret to say I learnt by painfull to my wallet experience.
