JR18 Moffat 26th-28th May 2018
JR18 will as usual be held over the late May bank holiday weekend.
Following a couple of years where we have ventured to Scotlands mainland northern extremes this event will look to explore the roads and scenery nearer to the border in the vicinity of Dumfries and Galloway.
It will be based in Moffat with ride outs on the Saturday and Sunday as is the norm.
As Moffat is not a large town details are being posted on the site earlier that usual to give attendees every opportunity to book accommodation before it becomes limited.
A sign up page will be available shortly.

The Campsite at Moffat is away from the main centre. Should be far enough. Why Moffat ? JR Been there a couple of times, roads to and through are limited*. Though I suppose we have newer members who may enjoy the borders. * Same could be said for other JR venues.

We haven't been to Moffat for 8 years so the new members won't know it and the older members won't remember it Plus it's more easily accessed by the southern fraternity so hopefully will mean that members who struggle to get time off work will be able to attend.

We haven't been to Moffat for 8 years so the new members won't know it and the older members won't remember it . You have a point. Half of this mob can't remember what they had for breakfast.
Roads are good around there, the ride down from my place is really enjoyable (assuming you stay away from the M74) Hopefully I'll be OK for a jolly.

As part of my extensive preparations for this run I'm looking into the possibility of a ride up for those coming from the affluent south and who wish to avoid the banality of the M6.
Rough idea is to meet in Ashbourne or Matlock and then head up via the peak district, cross the M62 between Huddersfield and Rochdale and then head over the Yorkshire Dales to join the Penryth/Carlyle.
If any members have any local knowlege of part or all of this route I would be most appreciative of any suggestions of roads to use or avoid, and of any decent places to reprovision, along the way.

The following week is Appleby horse fair. When you pass through North West Yorkshire there will be a lot of Gypsies in the area, and you should take care - not to frighten any of the darling little horses pulling the pretty little caravans.

We've booked in at the Seamore House, but it's filling up already.
We were there last July and it's still owned by the same people as 8 years ago, Heather and Allan. Still a lovely place to stay. Looking forward to it.

I see the northern contingent have been checking out the camping near Moffat last night. Apparently the M74 campsite has no facilities but plenty of parking.

We had planned to camp in Moffat this weekend but we decided to give it a miss for this week, it's too busy. I'm a softy northerner, weather too inclement.
Van in for MOT next weekend so it'll be February before we have a weekend there now. Assuming it passes its MOT.

Right, roads up here seriously falling to bits, all over. Then I hope my flight from Glasgow to Cambeltown next week isn't grounded by bad weather! I'm told the alternative is a long minibus journey.

I don't think we need a new thread. In the past we've had as much as seven different threads for the same run and it makes it hard for the attendees to keep track of the information. Debs and I are heading up to Moffat at Easter to look at possible routes so will check out your suggestion en-route. I'll post up all the final routes and meeting point timings shortly after
