When compared to a friends FZS600, the clutch on my 97 600s is very stiff... Why is the FZS clutch so light ? Is there any way to lighten the pull on my 97 600s clutch lever ??

I agree, the one on my XJ600s was very stiff till I changed the cable.

My money's on the cable as well. It may just need a thorough oiling.
If it isn't that, it's worth checking the needle roller bearings that carry the actuating spindle in the clutch cover. If the seal at the top has gone, it lets in water and the upper bearing suffers corrosion and premature wear. If that's happened the chances are you'll be able to feel some sideways play.

I've used them and generally they're OK. I did have one clutch cable where the outer was half an inch too long (or too short I can't remember which) and that made it a right bugger to fit surprisingly.
