Like JK and a few others I have invested in one of the PNA GPS units.
It seems to be a great bit of kit. unfortunatly I have one problem with it and I need a fix very quickly........
In order to hear the direction rather than look at the screen (which I consider a bit on the dangerous side) I have run a adio extention lead fom the GPS unit on my handelbars to the head phone jack for my Intaride XL Pro which is under my seat.
When not connecting the PMR radio it gives me audio from the GPS through my intaride earphones.
Unfortunatly the GPS cannot be heard on full volume at over 25mph.
Has anyone out there got any ideas on how I can improve this on a budget(ie I cannot afford a RP1 having just bought the GPS).
Does anyone know of a small amplifier that will go inline with mini headphone jacks or another solution.
I need a fix quickly as I leave for Scotland on Sunday for a weeks holiday inc the second scotland run.

Hmmm! I'm really surprised about that. I run mine through a similar set-up and can hear it clearly (with earplugs in) at 70-80mph.
You say you've connected the GPS to your 'headphone' socket on the Intaride - doesn't it have a radio-in or audio-in socket?? This would be the one to connect it to as it will supply you with amplified sound. Don't have the Interide myself, but thought most of them had this connectivity.

Hi JK,
I am connecting it to the larger of the two jack plugs that plug into the PMR radio. I do not have a the RP1 unit which does all the various inputes for music etc I only have the XL Pro which is basically just a radio, a mic, headphones and a PTT button.

Ah! Just had a look at the Intaride system on the web - looks like you may need an amplifier unless there is problem with the cable you are using. Where's Chris (Speighty) when you need him!

it could probably be adapted, would need a volume control and connectors, plus some kind of waterproof box. might not last though, because of the enviroment it would have to live in

If I was to get it assembled specifically with the gps in mind, Iwould set the volume on the gps and have two short leads one male one female and a lead for the power supply of the battery and have it housed in a small project box. any good do you think.....

If you look next to the price on the link there is a link to a PDF file with the destructions for assembly

yep, that may work, downsides are interferanceand vibration, generated from the bike, your never going to know without trying, sounds a good little project though.
From: Haggis_On_A_XJ900 Sent: 8/18/2005
Is there anything I can do to reduce interference ie sheiling of some description and as for vibration, anything I could pack it in?
From: FazerM40Man1 Sent: 8/18/2005
Intriguing project - will you have time to do it before you need to go?
Incidentally, I wouldn't pack it too closely, or it may just overheat & die.

HAggis,
try this. try that...
might be cheaper in the long run just to the RP1, then job done, and still have things to buy and still plug in m8

You could use some of those Koss "Bud" headphones. There's no amp in them but having them in your ear helps to reduce wind/road noise making the audio clearer.

All sorted fil, made the small amp from maplins
