It's not a rebuild if you are simply replacing parts

Had a look at the carbs yesterday, clean enough but the o rings and rubber gaskets are perishing and there's a bit of wear on the jets, hardly surprising after 40+ years I suppose... n Ordered a full rebuild kit from the states, at £16 was about a quarter of the price of anywhere in the Uk.

Had a bit of a setback today....you may recall I took the valve cover head off earlier in this thread. When putting it back on both reference manuals I have state to use a heat resistant sealant between mating surfaces, (there is no gasket as such), now I had some silicon sealant to hand so used that and thought that jobs a good un. Doing a bit more fettling of bits I had need to query one or two points on another forum that discusses early Honda four strokes. Don't recall quite how the topic came up but got quite a few tut-tut comments re the silicon sealant I had used on replacing the valve cover head. Apparently it's a great big no no, there are quite a few crucial oil ports within the head and *floating* bits of sealant can block these. Bugger, I'd better whip the head off again I thought, pleased I did, I found these bits inside... Imagine if they'd had found there way into the aforementioned oil ports! Ah, well, you live and learn, and the jobs done (properly) now, just don't take for granted what manuals say and ask for advise when required.

Finally got the tank and fenders back from the respray shop, made a good job, graphics 'n all. She finally looks the part I reckon, just need to source a decent chain guard, one that was on was knackered, then she's off for mot and getting re registered. Got some indicators and mirrors but will probably only fit the mirrors for the time being. Doesn't look so bad, if I do say so myself

You seem to have some sort of fixation on what I spent...wtf as it do with it? Rebuilding/restoring, call it what you want but I've enjoyed myself and learnt a few things along the way. Overall, I'm pleased with it and that's frankly all I care about.

OMG a 250 K0 !!! I'm not envious, of course not. Oh no. I had one on an N plate in the late 1970s. I regretted selling it before the buyer handed over his money. Who knows why I didn't tell him I'd changed my mind. It had hard and soft springs with a washer between on the rear shocks giving two stage springing. Nice idea but grit soon scored the dampers. The exhaust pipe rusted like mad. It cried to be greased up & put into storage in favour of a custom stainless system. Otherwise I loved the bike.
