hi all, going to put a new clutch in the d9 i will put new springs and friction plates in , my question is do i need to replace the metal friction plates ass well?

Only if they are FUBAR.
Unfortunately you won't discover this until you dismantle the clutch.
Generally speaking they should be OK so long as the friction plates haven't been allowed to wear down to the metal or if the mileage is stratospheric.
