Start simply with Luxembourg or Normandy. Then when you have the bug then Pyrenees and Alps are awaiting.

Nah, just jump in and go for it. You could always organise a Forum Europe run. It's been done before I seem to remember.
If Allan passes his test before next Summer I might try to drag the boys off for a European adventure.

Start simply with Luxembourg or Normandy. Then when you have the bug then Pyrenees and Alps are awaiting. It's the law of diminishing returns, the cost of the ferry, travel insurance etc are fixed so you may as well go straight to the best roads. Luxembourg and Normandy are okay (both have areas called 'petit suisse' with some reasonable roads), but the Alps (and to some extent the pyrenees, although the best bit is the quiet roads) aren't massively further on and are a game changer for UK riders (we have nothing that compares).

Having done 2 runs over the moors this year, by car, and the bike I was aiming to take on the Tiddler run (Aprilia Red Rose 125)nearly had me off when the rear locked, so have pulled out,I would certainly be interested in an Alps run on a bigger Italian Stallion. Am considering the Route 66 and even down under either Australia and or New Zealand.

I drove rather than rode but NZ has some truly stunning roads and scenery.
