Just doing last little jobs to get my trusty d9 back on the road, am hoping to get the bike mot'd weds morning however I just can't get the last task sorted. Before my spill I had the indicator set up that the bike came to me with...givi rack indicators, two small aftermarket indicators on the rear mudgaurd trim (black plastic under seat thingy) and two indicators of the same type on the front, all was well. However I dispensed with the two small rear indicators and used those to replace the broken front ones. I seem to remember testing them once mounted and again all was well. However the next time I tried them they flashed slow for first flash then go fast as if a bulb is blown but all four work. Changed the relay and exactly the same problem continued. Took switch apart cleaned that but it made no difference to flash rate. The hazard circuit flashes correctly although strangely I took the 10 amp fuse out that is labelled in the fuse box as hazard and they didn't stop working?! I checked the bulb size in the front indicators and they are 12v 21w so no issue with that wobbled all connections and it made no difference so presuming connections are all ok....can anyone assist as I want to get her mot'd but this annoying little last job is stopping me and I don't know enough about electrickery to check too much else....all help greatly appreciated!!!!

It's flashing like it's got a bulb out....I will ask the mot fella as he is pretty decent but it's annoying to say the least. I might put a post up on the wanted section for some standard front indicators I don't like these eBay sealed units that it has on at the moment

just checked those they are 21w as well so you had three indicators on each side then, seems likely someone replaced the indicator relay with a one to suit three indicators, replace with a standard relay, or a led/standard type relay.

Just replaced with standard relay which is the same as the one I took out..that was my thought as well. I'm not convinced by the sealed eBay indicators so gonna junk those and try a decent pair of indicators before doing anything else

Just replaced with standard relay which is the same as the one I took out..that was my thought as well. I'm not convinced by the sealed eBay indicators so gonna junk those and try a decent pair of indicators before doing anything else If you replace it with a relay that is electronic, then the flashing will be at the rate set by the electronics, Standard relays are bi metal and are set by the rate that the metal strip heats up, So you need a Led one but it needs to be able to handle the wattage, some do and some don't. Like this one, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Pin-12V-Electronic-LED-Car-Flasher-Relay-Unit-Fix-Blinker-Indicator-Globe-UK-/231825778040?hash=item35f9e4a578:g:onUAAOxy0QBSQiY1Though there are plenty cheaper if you look, that one can handle upto 240w and will flash at a constant rate no matter how many indicators fitted.

It would appear my hunch was correct the cheap eBay indicators that I got the bike with, despite being marked on the lens as 21w, were in fact 10w bulbs!!! So when there were four of them the wattage added up to 40 so the relay worked fine, when I got rid of the two broken ones that dropped down to 20w so the relay got confused! Moral of this story if you are buying indicators off eBay, especially the sealed type that you have to break to get into, good luck!!
