So after the disappointment of missing Scotland and also working my nads off at home Racheal decided it was time for a treat. So after over 30 years of biking I finally own my 1st brand new bike........ After a good long talk I decided to downsize. A bike for a grown up biker! LOL

NC750X?
Excellent choice, my NC700X averaged 85mpg and was really comfortable.
Did you trade in the FJR?

Can't wait to hit 300 and then I can play in sports mode properly!! Can't believe the MPG though. It's great!!

You see I came back to bikes to get away from all the computerised cr@p that is now included for people that can't drive. Seriously, a chimp could drive today's cars; mind with the standard of driving these days I think having chimps driving us around would be a major contribution to Road safety. Anyway, much to my dismay all this electronic stuff is now finding its way onto bikes to prevent muppets that can't ride killing themselves (not suggesting you can't ride, but generally those numpties with more money than skill) Traction control? My Divvy has traction control. It's called the back brake.

I used to decry modes, ABS etc but now that I have them they're brilliant. Perhaps your bike is just too slow to appreciate the use of them.
Until you use them you just won't appreciate them. I used to laugh at Air conditioning in the Car, don't really need it in Scotland assuming your window goes down. Then I started driving in some bloody Hot countries and quickly learned to appreciate it. Same with Automatic gearboxes, couldn't see why until I started spending an inordinate amount of time sitting in American traffic jams. make the M25 look like a race track.

I just had a look on the Honda website. "Smooth power, impressive fuel efficiently, real-world versatility" Looks like the old Japanese translation bugs are returning.

Down-sizing, eh? We'll have you on the Coast to Coast run yet ! I think the size you've chosen is about perfect for mixed riding - can commute, tour, & to an extent enjoy a thrashing. Makes you work for the overtakes, which is quite rewarding. Overtakes are a bit too easy on bikes that pack enormous punches, & you seldom need the acceleration they are capable of. Fun for a while, but the novelty wears off. On the tech front, I still prefer carbs over fuel injection, but we have no choice about that with new bikes. ABS? Only ever got mine working (new XJ6) whilst testing if it actually worked or not, & so I'd know how it'd behave if the need arose, so it's not really an intrusion. I suspect the different modes (sport, rain, 'normal') are a bit of a gimmick, but never had 'em so you fly boys with the new toys will have to tell us . Only ever had one brand new bike myself - great feeling, coupled with not wanting to make the first mark or ding on it! Enjoy .

Looks nice Matt Can't help but think it needs a rear hugger to stop all the sh!t getting thrown up... (Blush) I actually had a test ride on a '13 700x today, went in to sit on it to see if I could manage a higher bike and the shop stuck trade plates on and gave me the keys! Very strange after 15 years on a D6... tank felt huge-bars felt small-screen felt non-existent but worked as well as the D6?, but most importantly I felt comfortable with the height at junctions etc. I think you may have made a wise choice Adbru

It seems a better bet than the Integra Scoot version that's neither one thing nor t'other, like the equally pointless Gilera 800 and Aprilia 850 Maxi Scooters that aren't any more practical than the more motorcycle like Aprilia Mana, even though the dummy tank does accommodate a helmet, the tank being under the seat, and as well as the 3 modes the scoots have has a semi automatic gear lever mode, and apart from an injector breaking and stranding me (on one of the nicest days weather wise down by Harwich Quay awaiting a friendly breakdown man) the Aprilia Atlantic like the later type version that got kept 9 years, and was also handy a few times when I had a job with gears and Foot brake is twist and go, up till a week or so ago it was really the only 2 wheeled powered bike one could ride and frankly could see off most fancy cars and even a few motorbikes. Strange on my short trip on Sunday every biker returned my nod and visa versa, whereas sitting stranded I nodded to a Lambretta rider and got sweet FA in return. Anyways it's out of action till the part wings its way from Italy.
I was gonna ride my Mille to Great Bentley yesterday but my mate over the road talked me out of it, it's turning chilly go in the car, you can still look at all the bikes, I had put the titanium shot gun exhausts on it again but conversely I can't decide weather or not to keep the twin with twin outlet exhausts that sound like the 4 horsemen of the apocolipse, Ones on the Cagiva or the smart stock ones ones that seem to weigh a ton but maybe help keep the black rubber rings the right side down , which maybe befit the upright stance and lower seat height, also being less tiring if I get to do the distance stuff.
I haven't actually ridden it yet as BWiser gave me a killer deal adding it to the Mille insurance, fair douse went up from £206 to £238, as I declared having a claim, my 500 Scooter was over 200, with Bennetts, but all have continental cover and breakdown, The Cagiva would have been £238 too, however adding it with the same 4000 mile limit, custom modifications( also 160 BHP)dyno tested, came to £311! I have had to possess my soul in patience as the Mille was due for renewal tomorrow, so the Raptor is also totally legal and I am looking forward to riding it.
So much for scaling down as was the idea with the Yammie 600, or Bev's almost sympathetic you silly old fool , riding 1000cc bikes at your age, and then slags off someone else for doing the opposite.

Luddite, not me,if anything I tend to be an early adopter. It was 1985 that I had a car with aircon, a time when most owners had yet to discover electric windows. Not had a car without it since. (actually my first car with aircon was my Trans-am, but it didn't work and I never got it repaired as I always used to have the window down, trying to impress the shop girls in Dolcis with the tunes from the eight track player -which needed a B&H fag packet shoved down the side of the cassette to stop it slipping) My first car with ABS came in 1988. And this is my point. I am going back to basics, cos I find all this gadgetry boring. Just waiting for aircon to be offered on a bike. I'm sure there are some GS buyers that would sign up for that one.
