Hi all I am kirk, I just got myself a 1999 D6 I posted this in the intro section so I thought I better post in this one as well. need's a couple of things sorting out on it, clutch rattle which have read up on and will do this shortly the other and more confusing to me is to start the bike the side stand as to be up even in neutral with clutch pulled in. so the bike will not run at all with side stand down! The bike as had a new ignition switch and a new neutral switch so perhaps there as been something wrongly fitted there. the neutral light works as should there is this though, with ignition on clutch in if I put side stand up and down twice the rev counter needle will move to 2,000 revs for short time the set back to zero and once or twice the bike as not started click from relay and nothing rock it in gear and then get a noise that sounds like from fuel pump and starts fine. I did have a 1999 D6 around 2002 used mainly for commuting from Liverpool to Manchester every day and never had any problems with that bike so thought I would get one again as easy enough to work on and pretty reliable. Any advice on the side stand starting issue would be most appreciated.
thanks kirk

Someone clever will be along shortly, meanwhile I can tell you the rev counter thing is the bike telling you what the problem is. Someone has a list of what means what. Certainly sounds like some problem in the safety switches on clutch, sidestand, and/or gear position.

Sounds like you may have two unrelated problems.
Not sure what the sidestand issue is, but the "click" from the relay then having to rock the bike in gear could well be a worn brush in the starter motor. Not uncommon, even at fairly low mileages. It's quick and easy to take the starter off to check.
