Hi Folks, As there was no-one telling me to stop I am volunteering to put together and host JR16 :-) I have put the location as Inverness (ish) as I would prefer to use one of the smaller towns just North of Inverness but it depends how many are coming. I will confirm the base by middle of January. Base is Inverness. A new long distance tourist route called the North Coast 500 was announced this year as Scotlands version of Route 66 :-) It's probably too much for one weekend when people are traveling so far so I have plans for a long run on the Saturday which takes in part of the NC500. Then a shorter local run on Sunday. Maybe JR17 can take in the rest of the NC500? The maps show the base as a town called Beauly which is 20 mins past inverness but may struggle if we get 30 bikes. (so this could change). Saturday: This will show you some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland :-) Some deserted freeway, hills and lochs, highest public road in Scotland, great single track roads, Glen Torridon, Poolewe - the staging post for the Artic convoys, and more hills :-) Ensure cameras are fully charged ! Proposed Saturday JR16Sunday: Gentler run through Glen Affric, loop around Loch Ness (Watch out for Nessie!), cross country single track to a Neolithic Site then back to base. Proposed Sunday RunComments welcome (if polite !) Adbru

Your timing is impeccable..... was just about to post to gauge interest.
Count me in and most likely Tris as well.
Will be coming up on Thursday to Carlisle/Glasgow (ish) and same again on the Monday, so distance to the start inst a factor for me .

Most likely I'm too far away to take part Hi Grumps, I've taken the Bank Holiday at the end of May as that is the usual date for the JR. That may give an extra days traveling time for some :-)
Any questions just shout and I'll try and answer them....

Absolutely stunning scenery and ground not covered by previous JR's.
It's Bank Holiday Grumps, people come from further afield than Droitwich. Should be people to ride up with.

I'll be there. Probably won't do it all in one day - even from Merseyside its nearly 400 miles Carol says she's not doing the Applecross road but will make her own route up for Saturday

Hi, If Carol doesn't fancy going over the pass then she could keep going when we turn of near 'tornapress' and meet us again 9 miles up the road at Shieldaig? Or I'm happy to help put together an alternative for her if there is anywhere in particular she fancies :-)

There may well be others who don't fancy it. ( I'd guess nobody here would admit it) Personally I love it in good weather, but we live in Scotland. The use (or not in some cases) of passing places can make it interesting.
In my opinion it has to be done at least once.
It isn't more difficult than some of the Yorkshire / Cumbria roads I've been out on.
An alternative with tea stop to give the adventurers time to catch up might be called for.
if it's hosing down I can see a very busy tea stop while we wait for Adrian.

Seeing as we're heading so far north Debs and I are looking at staying up following the JR16 runs and riding the complete 500 over a period of 3-4 days.
Anyone else fancy it?

Anyone else fancy it? Any other year. My MIL is 80 the week before and as punishment for being so inconsiderate we're taking her to Lincolnshire for a week. That would mean 2 weeks off work to do the 500 after the JR. I only get back from the Land of the yokels on the JR Friday. No idea why she couldn't have moved her Birthday to August.

John and myself are also looking at this, also may stay on for the week, John has to check with his work first before we say yes for sure.

To avoid highjacking this thread any further I’ve started a separate thread for those who fancy staying up and riding the North Coast 500 afterwards.

Be nice if we are all fairly close (same town) to one another for the evening ritual of tales of burning off boy racers & talk of how our wet gear leaked like a sieve .
