Hey all,
I have a couple of questions but will separate them into two threads (for reasons that will become obvious)
SO - I seem to have a very slight fuel leak from what appears to be the inlet of the fuel pump of my 2001 Divvy, although I would suggest that the outlet hose is also a bit crappy given the age of the thing, and that it has sat around in the elements for the 14 years prior to me getting it.
Is this just a matter of perished lines? I know that you can't all look into a crystal ball and say for sure -- but what I am angling at is whether this has something to do with the dreaded petcock deterioration that seems to happen to this beast? The leak is minimal, but still leaves a 2 inch patch on the ground over a 12 hour period. So, does this sound like just the hoses letting go of whatever is left in the line? OR is the petcock suspect given that (in my understanding) the valve should shut off and theoretically create an informal vacuum loop that would make leakage unlikely.
Which leads me to another concern -- I've never owned a bike with a vacuum assisted tap-thing. Are they worth it... I mean, do they work as described (automatically going to reserve etc) or are they just overly problematic?
If it has failed I wouldn't be averse to replacing it with a manual thing - but is that a viable answer (seals, kits.. blah blah blah)? Has anyone done it? and where is the new tap mounted given the current position may as well be in the middle of a furnace for the purposes of post ride manipulation?
Thanks in advance -- this is my only mechanical-esque concern... the bike has only done 4000kms after all. I think for the most part I am dealing with degraded bits of rubber...
Cheers,
Andrew.
