afternoon chaps,i have a divvy 900s and i know that when the side stand is down, the engine will cut out when a gear is selected, the problem with mine is , if the bike is in neutral and the side stand is used the engine cuts out and the rev counter spins round? after speaking to dean (all things diversion)he told me to check/clean all electrical connections and check harnesses for chaffing.this done the same fault is still occuring.i have changed the side stand switch for a new one to no avail.any ideas.the only thing i have done recently is changing a broken front indicator with a new one but this works ok but the wires are black to black and black/white to brown.

What point on the rev counter does the needle spin up to? Manual gives these two, knowing which you have might help shorten the search for the errant connection or component: guessing it'll just point to 'ignition' but worth confirming that. Pic courtesy of TwoHat .

Logically, it should be the neutral switch (or a connection it) that is at fault - the sidestand switch not performing as it should being just a symptom, not the problem itself. Check the neutral switch wire is intact. (Obviously check the wire before testing the switch, as removing the switch requires draining the oil).

after more fiddling, when the engine is running in neutral, all ok.when side stand is deployed in neutral engine stops and tacho reads 9000 rpm.when side stand is retracted motor starts ok.

OK - I think that confirms its either the neutral switch, or the wiring for it that's at fault. Leaves you with tracing the wiring involved I think - I've plenty of knowledge of folks having wiring issues on our aging bikes but I've not encountered anyone where the problem was the switch itself.

I thought that the diversion had a clutch switch and sidestand switch in the same circuit, with a diode to stop the current flowing backwards, maybe the diode has failed?
