Hi, I'm looking for one of these for my '97 XJS 600, I put a circle around it: I call it a rear mudguard, or rear mudflap, but I can't find one for sale on the Interweb. I think the problem is that I'm not using the right words. What I do find is: - Fender extenders for the *front* wheel even though I friggin' try to screen out the word 'front'
- rear huggers
- the inner rear fender above the rear wheel
- rear mudguards for the newer series XJ6 Diversions.
I feel like Gandalf at the entrance to Moria. What is the magic phrase? (What's rear mudguard in elvish?)
Thanks, much obliged.

Hmm, usually comes up under a search for rear mudguard Only help I can give is that the 900 fits too, one of the very few parts that are interchangeable between the 6 and the 9.

Why do you want it? When I bought my 900 new it wasn't fitted and I didn't realise it until I saw another 900. The tail end looks so much neater and sportier without it.
On the 900 there is a small mudguard (under the longer one) to which my number plate is fixed and I got over the lack of reflector by sticking two small round reflectors onto the rear light lens. I still have some of those if you want a couple.
The back end doesn't get particularly dirty without it either.

The 900 rear mudguard fits the 600? I was wondering about that, thanks!
I want a rear mudguard because I'm getting tired of grimy water flying onto my back. Now I have a rear case and the few wet days I've had so far suggest that it will be regularly sprayed come winter. So maybe the longer mudguard is not as stylish; I can live with that.
I still can't figure out how water flies up over the rear and then projects forwards onto my back.
I also can't figure out why my local Yamaha dealer gave me a blank look when I asked about rear mudguards. Maybe I was talking to the clarinet salesman.
I'll see what I can find and get back to you.

That is weird, the aerodynamics of the 900 must be very different, I have never experienced water on my back in 19 years of riding mine including some VERY wet days.
Good luck with your search, I would have thought most of the many places breaking Divvys would have them available.

Hi. The part number is 4KM-21691-00 description - Flap. If you ring Fowlers they will tell you the cost, and if you don't fall over, ask you if you want it posting. If in stock they are very quick. Takes a bit longer if not in stock. ATB

I don't think it's a huge problem though. Looks far better without the flap.

If you do get a new flap a tip is to use bolts with wingnuts (on the inside) to hold it as they give you a chance of getting the bolts out when you need to remove it (to replace the tyre etc). The original bolts like to become one with the nuts due to the cruddy environment they live in.
Grum.

I can confirm that the D6 and D9 ones are the same.
I have a couple of mudguard extensions in the shed, though I'm fairly certain they're not for a Diversion - probably one's ex-Thundercat, the other possibly from my daughter's old TW125. Unfortunately, as I don't have a suitable bike to check them against, I can't be sure!

i still have the one i removed from mine, i'll stick it in the post for a donation to some worthy cause linked to the forum.... i can't be bothered to collect a few quid postage and i can't, in all good conscience, charge for something that i only still have because the garage was open and i threw it in there instead of the bin... it still has the reflector on it too...

So I am not the only one that thinks the tail end looks much neater/better without that bit.
Mine looked even better until recently as I had my personal number on it on a small plate, really nice. I have put the plate on my car now and the only plate I had with the original number was a legal size one.
I keep thinking I may get another smaller plate made up, I ran it for years without any problems with the small plate, just had to swap it over for a few hours at MOT time. What is the consensus on that??

I'm back. I also found the part number, but thank you, spike240, for the reference. It turns out that with the part number all kinds of offers pop up. I have made a bid on one on eBay. If I don't get it then your offer, mlbv, sounds generous and I'll recontact you. Wingnuts: got it. Thanks, grumbleweed, may your camel spit nothing but dates. Here's an official schematic. Until next time...
