Hi yes swing arm bearings stripped when it was powder coated I am hoping to get 2.2k ono for it and really suggest coming to see it first and you will see it is as good as I said Unfortunately I am too far away to come and view it unless I was pretty certain that I wanted to buy it; and I am afraid it also seems to me to be a bit more than what I would be expecting to pay - particularly for a private sale.
There's a one South west Scotland for sale on Facebook, looks decent and similar miles, but 96 model, and £1250 Ono, www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1439816943013448&set=gm.1613109795632681&type=1&theater1996 Yamaha XJ900S Diversion. 33800 miles, three previous owners. I have owned this bike since 2007, summer weekend rides and touring. Some cosmetic marks and blemishes as you would expect on a bike of this age but mechanically in excellent condition. Good tyres and stainless steel exhaust front pipes and collector box. The bike has just had a full service and I will put 12 months MOT on it once sold. £1250 ono

The link won't work for me, possibly because I have never succumbed to the devil that is FB.. Is there any other way of getting in touch with the seller? Sorry for the slight hijack here Mick!

Looks a bit shabby, even in the poor quality picture, but... "11,132 genuine miles" So not all bad, but then..... "Will require new discs for next m.o.t" WTF? 11k miles and new discs required?

"Will require new discs for next m.o.t" WTF? 11k miles and new discs required? Strikes me as odd too . Maybe it's genuinely gone round the clock . Note no centre stand - which is unexceptional but damned inconvenient on these. £1500 - have D9 prices soared somewhat over the past year or two ?

Every bike price has soared over the past year or so, particularly up here. That's why I come down there to buy bikes. BTW when I questioned some low bike mileages, a year or so ago, I'm fairly sure it was Cam7777 and M40man who defended the ridiculously low miles on some fairly old machines. Owners obviously did less riding than Trev does at the sign of drizzle. Now that I look more closely the rear brake either doesn't work or doesn't get used much, the disk looks rusty. Unusual colour for a 96 too.

I don't like it, it's a high price though not in respect to the milage, but that milage looks suspect, it's got a lot of rusty fasteners and a bit of alloy corrosion, not in itself an issue, what is an issue is the bolts holding the frame downpipes are painted, the corrosion on the engine says reasonably looked after 40k rather than unloved 11k, it needs pads and discs, which on a D9 last how long? it's had downpipes replaced, and by the looks of it going by the rim damage, it's had quite a few tyres fitted, I would be surprised if the owner could provide Mot history back to it being 3 years old!

Oil cooler has been by-passed too (or did the early models not have an oil cooler? Memory of Divvy trivia is fading!). Bit of a shed really, and I don't believe that mileage for one minute.

They all had oil coolers Al. The owner prob patched the oil lines running down the front of the engine, which get blasted by all the crap off the front wheel. I don't believe that bike to have covered only 11k odd miles.

OK, the quest is over. Thanks to all who assisted. I have seen more pics of the red D9 as posted by HRH Penfold, and it does look as if it is in excellent condition; BUT ..... Having sat down and thought this through, I think I am just going through another nostalgia trip and remembering my D9's through rose tinted glasses. Time is a great healer and you tend to forget why you got rid of the last one in favour of a Fazer 600! The D9 is a great bike for touring, but I think my days of that are well and truly over - I can't be bothered with the discomfort any more, and my attraction for foul weather is quite well known. On top of that, I now need to wear contact lenses when driving, and I find them quite uncomfortable on a bike after just a few hours. Must be something to do with the air passing through the helmet and drying them out, as they are fine when wearing them for anything else. So for the time being I'll be sticking with shorter outings on the CBF600, which doesn't have anything like the same wow factor as a Fazer 600, or even a D9! As I mentioned to Ian, I hope it's just the Honda and not a case of me losing my bike mojo in my middle (!!) age.....

Well you excersised a bit of nostalgia there but probably came to the right conclusion. It can be a mistake the second time around. I bought my Divvy thinking it would be easier for touring but other issues negated that. After one of the best rides on it having got the brakes done I thought that's it sell my Aprilia Futura but then a little later I went for a run on that, and it's almost Animal savagery, performance wise, against admittedly the Creamy smoothness of the 4, helped reverse that, as did having plonkers enquire about the Ape. I did get one of those with the Divvy at first but it sold to the right person and I more or less got back what I paid £600. I wasn't overcome with nostalgia when she , the purchaser, and bike arrived at Great Bentley, as despite the bike being good looking its in a rather bland way, and without wishing to upset the apple Cart with Diversion owners maybe a tad soulless. Not even quite in the Clasic league. I just seem to have an affinity to Italian machinery, warts and all and now have 4 Latin ones. To be honest for what some are asking for XJ900 s beggars belief. I paid quite a bit less than the expensive one on here for my Futura, which has only needed a battery and clutch bleed nipple and shaft, bought second hand. Well over a year ago now. The Mille I couldn't resist, is arguably the nicest looking bike I have owned and with Power Commander 3 as well as peeshooter exhausts even more powerful than the same engines Futura, which is rated at 113 BHP. Then I got me another 33 HP 125 two stroke and wonder if that is really all the bike I really need. I still have the first one and now the longest bike owned by me.Very very rare now. Both the 1000 cc Italian Stallions are heavy to manoeuvre, but not so much as the Divvy was. Even the 650 Sachs is featherlight in comparison. So maybe next year I will reduce the fleet accordingly.

I think that you have a honda, and that is the problem, the D9 would be less dull than the Honda, but they are still dull, you want something that makes the journey interesting, something fun at normal speeds, something tough, sounds like a MT350 ex army bike!

I assume I'm manly enough to get one started . your manly enough to start a Mt350, though you do know that the 350 is electric start, so your more than capable to press the start button! the Mt500 though is a different matter! I have been doing some riding on this old clunker this week, it's a lovely runner though and starts first kick, and I am not very good with kickstarts! it's a customers and it's been in to recommission, after a long lay off, and in for a Mot, it's great to ride at sub 70 speeds, gets a bit vibey after that!
