Had this bike for over 3 years now and think maybe it's time for a change, though not sure to what at the moment - maybe an XT660R. So looking to see if there's any interest. I bought it at just over a year old, when it had about 6,000 on the clock and had been used for commuting into London through the winter, so it wasn't in the prettiest condition, though being a Yamaha it stood up to it fairly well. Since then I've done about the same again, tidied it up somewhat, and used it generally for local-ish journeys (but not short shopping trips of the mayonnaise-in-the-oil-generating variety). Furthest I've been in a day is probably around 200 miles, though it's actually comfortable enough to do a lot more than that - it's perfectly capable of touring Europe. Just done a valve check and adjust (3 of 4 needed very minor adjustment), oil and filter change, coolant change, brake fluid change, new chain & sprockets. Good Pirelli Strada tyres, also spare pair of wheels (with discs and sprocket) fitted with Pirelli MT60 tyres (as shown in photo) for winter use. Givi Monolock topbox rack, Givi screen (makes a big difference cruising at motorway speed), Yamaha engine bars (not fitted in photo), Renthal handlebars (saves a couple of Kg), fenda-extenda, radiator grille, charging lead, possibly a few other bits and bobs that I've forgotten. Plus a few spare parts that I've acquired on ebay "just in case", and any OEM parts that I've taken off. Currently on SORN (as of end May) and MoT has expired, but will put a new MoT on it at the beginning of July. These seem to fetch around £2,000-2,500 on ebay (without all the extras listed above), so looking for offers around that - pretty cheap for a 4-year-old bike, no? Possibly the most fun you can have on a bike that gives up to 70 m.p.g. - I normally need to put in about 10 litres after the light comes on at 150 miles.

For a B-road/rough road scratcher you probably couldn't get a more fun bike. Until you have a blast on the 660 singles you just won't get it. The XT660R opens up territory which is a bit wilder, but loses a bit of the B-road fun factor in doing so. I sometimes hanker for the XT660X when I'm on some good twisties; wishing I could push the front end a bit more, but the R is very comfortable (with Renthals) and will go virtually anywhere that's not extreme and without inducing panic attacks about things going wrong. Drop it and it won't break. The fuelling is it's only Achilles heel......

Have a talk to Geoff at Hilltop. He's THE MAN for BMW re maps that sort out its weak running and flat spots. Yamaha may well be doable. hilltopmotorcycles.co.uk/

Bump.
Looks like I'm about to inherit my daughter's MT-07 as she's intending to upgrade to something more exotic (Italian with a V-twin engine), so unfortunately the MT-03 will have to go to make room for it.
Been back on the road and MoT'd as of 1st July.
Any (sensible) offers?

Bump.
Definitely got to in the next couple of weeks. Brilliant winter hack, and general all-rounder (there was one on ebay recently that had been converted, with the minimum of changes, to a round-the-world adventure bike).
Sad to part with it, but I just don't have the space now. Couple of grand, or thereabouts, and it's yours, complete with all the extras.

Bump.
Well, I've still got it - it's just so darn useful, and it's done all the depreciating it's likely to do for a while so I'm not losing anything on that score. But the insurance is due for renewal shortly so if I'm going to get rid, I guess now would be a good time.
Since the original ad I've done a few more things on the bike, such as greasing the steering head and rear suspension and fitting new cush drive rubbers (an Achilles heel on all the Yamaha 660 singles). I've fitted an O2 sensor eliminator to calm down the somewhat snatchy throttle, at the expense of a bit of fuel economy. I've also fitted Givi soft pannier racks, which came up cheap on ebay. And added another 4000 miles - it's now just over 16000.
Photobucket have walked off with the original photo, which was out of date anyway, so I need to take a few more.

It features in a few of these: diversionclub.proboards.com/thread/22663/jan-jolly-2015-picsBut they don't really show much. I'll try to get a few decent ones tomorrow, weather permitting. £2000 with all the extra bits and pieces (Givi soft panniers and frames added since the original post, and it has an almost new Dunlop D208 rear tyre on the 'summer' wheels), and the OEM parts that I've substituted. If you did decide to go for it, I can probably get it down to EX11, which would be a fair bit nearer for you.
