Hi. I suspect my neutral switch is on the way out. Neutral light is not always lighting when bike is in neutral. My question : Has anybody on the forum replaced the neutral switch on a XJ900S ? Is it possible to replace without removing the whole exhaust system. The Haynes manual says nothing about removing the exhaust to replace the switch.

Err I don't know, but the neutral switch is an earthing switch, so check the wiring as they rarely give issues, take the wire off and connect to earth to see if the light comes on reliably!

The bike uses the switch (and one on clutch) to prevent it starting in gear. If all that works as normal, it's not the switch.

Hi. Thank you for replies. I had previously installed LED dash bulbs. The problem turned out to be a faulty LED neutral bulb ( intermittently working). Replaced with original type bulb and no problem since.

I thought I had an issue with my neutral switch today. not lighting up and not starting despite being in neutral. It would occasionally flick on but go out with a loud click when hitting the starter. Turned out the negative terminal on the battery was loose. Tightened it up and all good again.
