Faired 1998 Divvie, bought last year. 12k miles only. When hot, there's a slight but audible tick from the right-hand side at low revs. Tick disappears once the revs go past about 2,000-2,500 rpm.
Tick only appears when the engine's properly hot. Cold, tepid, warm: no tick.
Oh-kay. I reckon it's not a wide valve clearance as that would tick louder when cold (bigger clearance), and would be pretty constant. And (according to the service records) the valves were checked not so long ago.
The fact that the tick is on the camchain side disappears when the revs rise suggests to me that it's a little bit of camchain flail and that this is 'just a Divvie thing'. Could be a weak camchain tensioner, but at those low miles I doubt it.
Opinions?

I doubt its much to worry about, maybe a bit of Mollislip or Slick 50 in the oil could help. Alloy is a great metal for lightweight but seems to magnify rattles, my 900 Divvy had 76000 miles on it but tended to rattle a bit at tick over. That was a small price to pay for the silky smoothness of the four( now how easy would it be to fit one into anAprilia frame?

maybe a bit of Mollislip or Slick 50 in the oil could help. But might well give clutch slip! A couple of things: 1. The camchain is in the middle of the engine, so you'd expect it to be heard equally from both sides. 2. A small leak in the exhaust can sound like an engine rattle. OK, the bike's low mileage, but after all these years the exhaust might well have corroded, or a clamp may have come loose.

D'Oh. Of course it's in the middle. And a better listen shows equal on both sides. Dunno what I was thinking of. As regards exhaust, nope, not that for sure. It goes away when the engine is under load, so it's just a bit of camchain tick and not worth worrying about, I reckon.

600 or 900? 600 clutch rattle developing? Balancing the carbs helps, but even better do the death rattle mod before it wears to any extent.

600, and it's not clutch rattle, no. Interested to know what the 'death rattle mod' is, though.

The oil pump drive has a roll pin that wears and rattles. It's located behind the clutch so can sound like clutch trouble. diversionclub.proboards.com/thread/15056/diversion-clutch-death-rattle-cureTaking off the 600 clutch cover makes good sense. (1) The release bearing never sees much oil so runs dry. High temperature grease sorts that out. (2) The clutch release lever runs on needle rollers which also run dry and chew the shaft. Some get so loose the seal fails allowing water into the engine. High temperature grease stops it all going Pete Tong While the cover is off remove the clutch and replace that nasty roll pin.
