Hi, Looking for a new chain and sprocket set for my 600cc 93 diversion, but on various websites i see 45,46 and 48 quoted as rear sprocket. 16 front in all cases. Does anyone know what the Yamaha oem is for the bike. My Haynes doesn't mention it either. Also any recommendations for a chain sprocket kit, and x ring or o ring.... didn't know there were so many choices. It was replaced last year by a garage, but the DID chain has failed within 5000 miles because i drove through winter, and it got 'salted up' and i forgot to clean it off due to lack of time because of my demanding job (which i have now quit) I'm doing it myself this time because i don't have much money until i start my new job later this month and will be using it again for the commute. Thanks, paul

If memory serves, the half-faired XJ600S Diversion had a 46 tooth, while the (later) XJ600N naked had 48. I think the N also had a couple of extra links in the chain. Having had a couple of N's, I have to say they did feel a bit under-geared.
If you were happy with the gearing as it is, just count the number of teeth, or it may be stamped on the sprocket.
As to recommendations, I've used JT sprockets successfully, which are widely available from the likes of M&P. In fact I just looked up the JT online catalogue (http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/model/2447), and it gives 48 teeth as standard - so what do I know.
Everyone has their own views on the best (and worst) chains - personally I'm OK with DID or EK, and preferably X-ring rather than the cheaper O-ring. But chain life (as you have demonstrated) is as much down to TLC as to make and type.
If you're going to be riding through the winter again, I can recommend Renthal chain lube, which is a thick "stringy" oil that comes in a squeezy bottle, so no wasted overspray, and it seems to be much better than wax sprays at keeping corrosion at bay. I use Wurth Dry Lube in the summer, though, as it doesn't make any messy drips and doesn't attract dust.
