Hi all, just bought an xj900s, first bike in about 35 years. It's a bit tatty & needs a few jobs doing (speedo cable, new rear tyre & brakes freeing off). As I didn't pay much for it my intention is to have a go to make sure I want to get back into bikes before spending a bit more on something a little better.
Missing the centre stand so am looking to get a paddock stand, a rear initially, any recommendations? and can I fit spools/bobbins?
thanks in advance for any help/advice that nay be offered.

I don't think it's easy to fit a paddock stand, We tend to use something like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-LIFTER-MECHANICAL-GARAGE-WORKSHOP-SCISSOR-450KG-LIFT-JACK-STAND-/221684269487?hash=item339d6981afAnd strap the bike so as it won't fall off, on bikes that haven't got a centre stand, using a woofing block across the sump or pipes! The Xj900 is a big beast to be the first bike after 35 years, respect to you!

Hi Missing the centre stand so am looking to get a paddock stand, a rear initially, any recommendations? and can I fit spools/bobbins? Like Ian sez (HRHpenfold), it's tricky using a regular rear paddock stand. As unbroken centre stands are a bit thin on the ground, there are options. You can jack the rear right hand side to raise the rear off the ground (there's a bobbin here in my pic, but you can just jack under the swingarm) : (Ain't got a pic of doing this with a D9, but it's doable. Picking where you jack matters - or you won't be able to remove the spindle, if wheel removal is your goal)

Thanks for the responses guys. Couldn't see how to use a paddock which was why I asked, now I know. Not keen on the idea of jacking only one side, will have to see what I can come up with.

I've looked at these before, but been put off, not understanding how they support the bike steady, or even how you get them started - they just look a bit unsteady. If you have pics of yours in use, that would be handy to see.

If you have pics of yours inuse, that would be handy to see. They actually wind up like a trolley jack, very simple and quick. Once up the bike can rock so it does need to be secured. I have completely stripped the arse end of my Divvy 900 without any trouble.

Almost got my own version of the abba stand nearly finished now, when done I will post some photos. Had some of the materials needed just had to buy some box section, cost me less than a tenner.

Nth Lincs eh, can you narrow that down a bit? Must be related to you Trev. North Lincs, too tight to buy a stand so makes one, just got to get him to count his fingers, if he can count to 6, and we'll have confirmation. Actually I'm interested in the homemade effort, where's the pics and welcome to the Forum.

There's a photo posting instruction for people from Lincs and others with special needs.*

Please excuse me I've only met a few Lincs residents, I'm assuming you're all the same.
