....take out and replace starter and alternator.
I don't have the Haynes manual to hand right now but I have just started my lad's 600 (1995) up to try to identify the oil pin rattle.
On using the old screwdriver handle method the rattle seems to be more from the two cylindrical units on the top/back of the engine and I assuming these are the starter and alternator. If, when I get the clutch cover off and inspect the insides it really is a rattle from either or both as well as the oil pin, how difficult is it to get these off and renovated?. Is it an engine-out task or can it all be done with the engine in the frame?
PS, I have just stripped the clutch and noticed:-
1) The clutch basket has about 1mm play in and out (as you look at it and push/pull). Normal?
2) The gear top right as you look at the clutch (alternator?) rotates on its shaft slightly as if the lock washer is not doing anything. The nut is tight.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
David
