Thought I'd take the bike to work today as it's been in the garage for a couple of weeks. I gave it a spray with that Scotoiler protection spray as the aluminium stuff was looking a bit furry from the salt. Anyway, filled up with Esso Super Unleaded for a change and set off. All was fine through the rain and spray till I got to the M42. Just lining up to pass a lorry when I lost one cylinder (very careless of me I know). So I nursed it along to the A38 at junction 4. It seemed to run OK unless I tried to accelerate. The for a while it got better, then worse again, then better then worse etc. This carried on until I was nearly at work when it seemed to burst into life.
I haven't had a chance to look at it properly yet (I'll have to wait till lunchtime). Just wondering whether it's damp spark plugs or a bit of crap in one of the carbs blocking a jet.

I've heard of that before but never experienced it. Why should it occur today when it's not very cold yet run perfectly when it's a few degrees below zero?

because it started after a long run with a decent amount of throttle, it's the rush of air that causes the ice, at low speeds the heat of the engine keeps the carbs warm, as do the carb heaters!

OK. But this is the run I always do on the bike and have only once had a problem with it before whether the weather is hot, cold or flippin freezing. The bike almost never goes anywhere else so I was a bit puzzled as to why it should suddenly play up today. I have once had a misfire at about the same spot also when it was wet hence my thoughts about the ignition. I put some conformal coating on the plug leads which should keep the wet at bay.

I see what you mean. Does the 600 have carb heaters?

I see what you mean. Does the 600 have carb heaters? yes early were oil heated, later were electric!
