It would seem that Callander is a popular place....have been looking at accomodation, but a lot of it seems booked or they want a full week. so beware... plenty of B&B aswell, but not checked availablity on any of these.. www.incallander.co.uk/accombedandb.htm#guesthouses. I have found some self catering Lodges, sleep upto 6, 1 double, 1 twin room and sofa bed in lounge for 1 or 2!!! £417 all in for three nights, so quite a good price, located on a private estates about 1/2 mile from Callander centre, but 1/2 mile to get off estate !! there are a number of lodges available, they are on The Leny estate, person in charge of bookings is called Barry Martin. on a private road, parking right by lodges, deposit required at time of booking, balance later ! might have to get in sooner rather than later..... www.lenyestate.com/hope that might help some...

Beware the Scottish 1/2 mile walks (especially if you have an English accent ), more like 1.5 miles from estate to town. 5 minutes by car though.

If it's the bunkhouse we were at last time it was nearer 3 miles along a dark unlit lane, (where's my cree led light* when I need one?). *purely for my own safety you understand

been looking and logging some routes... saturday seems to be a 170 mile loop, Sunday is currently working out at 290 miles !! but only 7 hours ! should keep us out the pub till later.. Now then, would we want to do Glen coe? We have done that quite often, and i know it's a great ride, but have currrently avoided to find alternatives. looking at a visit to Aviemore, hence the miles, anywhere anybody would really want to go, or avoid? (please be sensible ! )

Question. Is it possible to cover 290 miles in 7 hours, on Scotland roads?? that's an average speed of 42mph, assuming there are no stops.

In a word no, In my opinion, inclusive of reasonable stops, you're looking at 10 hours plus, I recon if you manage as much as 30mph on average then you are doing well!

well ok, 7 hours riding time, so approx 9 hours. start at 10am, back by 7pm...told you, keep you outa ta pub could always bring the start forward, or, change to route ( which is better option I would think.) part of that 290 was a rather long stretch of the A82, which is open and quick, so average for that part would be OK !!

Would it make sense to do the longer run on the Saturday? After a mammoth Sunday run, many will have very long runs home on the Monday.

Sunday is currently working out at 290 miles !! but only 7 hours ! At the rate you posted for your WWW run last year..... approx 50 miles 1hr 30 mins.. I reckon it will take you about 9 and a half hours riding never mind factoring in stops.....are you hoping to get back to your digs on Sunday ?

JR13 Saturday run was 210 miles and some of you decided to take a shortcut. 290 is too much for a large group ride, in my opinion. Depends how many turn up. I happily do 300 miles in a day up here but that's just on my own or out with Dave. The A82 can often be a bit slow.

Hello I think this was the place with the 'short' walk www.scottish-hostel.com/I remember Scottish doing his Arnie impression in the middle of the night ! I will try to get down for at least one of the runs. Currently trying to redress the work/life balance to focus less on the 'work' part ! Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the summer (we had a hard frost last 2 days and forecast snow today !) Adbru

Chris.... Regarding company - sad to say I'll be taking the bike up in the van so whilst company is possible it's not very practical in fact - as SWMBO found when she rode up with me in the van - it's frustrating trying to keep 2 wheels and 4 wheels in a convoy. Also looking like I'll be taking her bike in the trailer this year.
