Guys, I have a 2010 JX6s and noticed the other day that the temp got to 105 on the dash read out. I've looked through the owners manual but can't find any info on when the fan should cut it. Once it reached 105 I switched the engine off just as I didn't want it to over heat.
Is this normal or should the fan cut in below 105?
Cheers Roy

I don't know the temp the fan should cut in, but the user manual says that if the temp goes to 130 you should stop the bike & with the engine just idling wait for the temp to drop. If temp goes to 140 or above, stop & switch off the engine & allow to cool. So I think you're well within parameters for continued use at 105.

130 is that deg-C ??. 130 is very high, I'll be pooping it if it ever got that high. Thanks for the reply. Anyone else know what temp the fan should kick in?

If you start the bike & let it idle does the fan cut in after a couple of mins it does on the Fazers this would check out the fan anyway.

Yep I think I’ll check it out as 105 for the fan to kick in seems a bit on the high side. I’ll check the fan motor first make sure it’s not seized. If that’s sound then the thermostat will be next and then the relay. If all those are found to be ok then I’ll have to move on to the wiring (already checked the fuse). By the way anyone know if there is a wiring diagram knocking around for this model. The fan on my bike never cut in whilst at idle. Friend of mine has an FZ so I could ask him about when his fan cuts in. I only found this out after letting the bike idle on the stand, but I lost my bottle at 105-C and turned it off. Thanks for all the replies.

I figured it was around 100 but 105 could be the figure. I haven't had it come on this year so it is a hazy memory! The only time it comes on is sitting idle/slow traffic on hot days. If you want to see it work ride like the wind and then sit and do nothing . Grum.

My CBR900 goes to 108 before the fan comes in, and brings it back to 104 before cutting out again. Remember the radiator is pressurised and has coolant, so boils noticably higher than regular water.

From the manual: Under 39 °C = Lo = ride, 40 - 116 = temp indicator = ride, 117 - 139 = temp indicator + temp warning light = Stop, and finally above 140 = HI and the other temp warning light = STOP. I can't see information regarding the temp that the fan kicks in.
