Oil under left hand crankcase cover under cylinder block

Evening folks,

noticed something on my '99 600s today.

whilst wiping the bike clean I noticed oil on the casing, when I put my hand underneath there was fresh oil there.

it does not drip, it just seems to sit there.

I can't see an obvious leak from anywhere and there is no oil on my boot after riding so it's not coming out whilst driving.

any idea's as to what it might be.

Airbox filling with oil due to various breather problems is first place to look. While the petrol tank is off check the oil cooler.

Will do once I get back home next Saturday, I did have the tank off a couple of weeks ago so maybe when I put it back on something happened.

It is not the oil cooler as there is no oil anywhere else on the block apart from under the left hand casing where the ignition stuff is.

Did my usual 18 mile trip to work today and it is dry as a bone where the oil normally pools, I am going to give it a hard, fast revving ride home tonight to see if that makes the oil come out.

One place I thought it might be coming out of is the plug directly beneath the casing whilst under pressure so will check that as well.

I am not overly concerned as it is not a major leak (if I'm losing 100ml a week that's a lot for this leak), it is just annoying, I change my oil every 2-3,000 miles and the filter every other oil change anyway as I don't do long distances.

You have probably kinked, or squashed the big breather that comes off the bottom of the airbox and over the top of the carbs and down to (I think) the crank case when you put the tank back.

This results in oil in the airbox which drains out of the left side and produces the symptoms you describe.

Clean it through and put back very carefully - or even better replace it with some more rigid hose.
